Default I want to apply for 2012 but...

I graduated from med school in Asia in 2002, was building my resume while studying for the USMLEs (now, have ECFMG certificate and passed Step 3), but decided to go to law school in the US (graduated May 2011). Now, I want to apply for psych residency (w/ sights set on a forensic psych fellowship).

I don't think ECFMG keeps LoR's from 2007, and even if they did, I'm sure I would need more current ones. I'm considering how to get psych stuff on my resume now.

Anyway, now that all, or almost all, residency programs use ERAS, I'm thinking about buying a token (possible at this time?), not thinking that I'll get any interviews, but to make sure I have my documents in order just so I'm prepared to fight for whatever positions are left open. Is this my best strategy? Waste of time, money, effort? Thoughts...I've even talked to military medical officer recruiters to see if agreeing to enlist would help my chances at getting a position (basically, the answer is no, but they mentioned a lot of benefits they could offer people who are residents).

ERAS don't keep your LORs from year to year except if you applied to at least one program and assigned the LORs to that program this way your LORs will be saved in ERAS system to be used in the next year. So practically speaking your LORs are not saved and you need to submit them again.
Regarding psych, if you already have your documents, buy the token and apply and also register to the nrmp to be able to get the list of unfilled positions after the match, you might have a chance in the scramble, although very low. If you are short of money then don't waste them now and keep them for the next year meantime try to do observerships for 2-3 months and get US LORs to increase your chances.

We must register in NRMP to participate in the match. Please call ERAS asap!!!
Also you need to go to nrmp.org and register for $50 before Nov 30.
