Default can't find an answer to this question!!!

Been looking around everywhere and can't find an answer to this Q.
Is it better to apply late and possibly not match than not apply at all and wait to apply with a complete application next year. Basically if you don't match will it look bad for next years residency (red flag?)

It depends on what you classify as an incomplete application, which programs you are applying to, and how strong a candidate you are (without the components of the application that you are missing).

e.g. Don't bother applying to a program that states explicitly that they MUST have Step 3, X months of USCE, visa status Y, or Z letters of recommendation from the US, etc., etc.

If you are in the same boat as many other applicants and don't have ECFMG certification or Step 2 CS done, then you SHOULD apply. The caveat being that you should apply to those programs that don't insist on having the above credentials in order to apply.

It shouldn't really matter for next year's application. That said, you shouldn't be thinking about applications next year. Get your application in exactly on the deadline so that it is available for upload by the programs.

FYI - I applied on time (clicked that button at 09:00 EST exactly!) without ECFMG certification or Step 2CS completed. I got a bunch of interviews and matched to my #1 University-based program.

Hi I m in similar situation but I have done step1 and step2 cs and some observerships.
So do I stand a chance that I can get some interview calls without step 2 ck.
I m applying mostly in neuro.
I dont want to ruin my next year full complete cv with a galf hearted match this year..
Any body with such example who got matched??

so I got some useful info from a PD in radiology (regardless its a PD ) so he said that your chances will not be hurt for next year if you do not match. Also the guy said that if your applying a week or two late then apply with a complete application when your results come in however, if you want to apply in like mid Oct then apply on 9/15 because most programs will fill their quota by mid October and won't look at any more apps. Feel like this is some good info!

its' better to apply (broadly). Gaps look bad, don't waste a chance, even if it's minimal
