Default Please reply guys..need your precious advice.

Hi friends...i am a student from india..and finished my internship last month.
i have been studying for usmle since past 1 month and so far it has been going smooth.
But yesterday i talked to my senior who already got matched for a residency program and it really depressed me.
because he asked me the following -
Did i do electives - i said no.
Did i do any research work - I said no.
Am i currently working anywhere - No.

He told me then my CV would be rather weak and asked me to clear the steps as soon as possible and get matched...
But i feel i really need 7-8 months to prepare for step 1.
Please tell me if i take this big a gap after internship without working, would those people consider it as a bad profile?(he said u need to have a strong profile as only 50% IMGs match)

please frankly suggest me how good my chances would be of getting matched.
please tell me frankly coz i dont want to spend my time and money on something in which the chances of getting through are meagre.
PLEASE REPLY GUYS...IT WILL REALLY HELP ME.
THANKS IN ADVANCE.

Your chances of matching for 2015 are slim to none. Your chances of matching for 2016 will depend on your usmle scores.

He gave you a very good advice and those are true.
While you are studying your steps, you better look for any observership or externship positions in the US.
If you can find some places for that, you will have USCE and US Lors for the 2016 match.
Scores are important but I would say connections are much more important than any other factors.
Try to get good usmle scores and apply all available USCE spots at the same time. cheers

Default Q

Its better to be certified by sept 15 if you want to apply for 2016 match. If you cant make it by then your YOG for 2017 will be 2+- 1 year. If and when you go for interviews they will ask you what you did for 2 years . The other applicatants will have research/ publication/ UNITED STATES CLINICAL EXPERIENCE/ HOME COUNTRY EXP etc etc. PDs dont like ppl sitting on thier ass and studying for 2 years and not doing anything. Also I havnt matched yet but im going in for this match.

one last thing is that if i work under a general surgeon in my area in his private clinic (like he can give me a fake one saying i worked) and then after clearing step 1 go for a proper job as MO,would it count?

Wow dude. I read your post looking for an american woman to marry you and now looked at your other posts, lol. You are something else.
I am not sure why you waited until one month after your graduation to actually think about going to the US and what your chances are going to be. Marrying a US citizen won't help if your scores are not good - they mainly look at where you did your med school. But I guess it would also be very hard to even get a visa in your case, unless you have very good scores, so maybe the wife is the right way to go. In any case, I want to congratulate you on your self confidence. Stating that you are very handsome and very rich - man I would sure love to see your online dating profile
