Question Volunteering as a gap in the CV and waste of time!

After graduation in January 2009, I have been working as a honorary doctor (voluntarily) in a 200-bedded hospital in my hometown..then after two years, I have joined internship now as the hospital which was recognized for internship (house job) was very distant away from my home...plz tell me will that period during which i worked voluntarily be counted as waste of time and a gap in my CV or will it be counted during interview?????

Hi, yes it is counted, try to get a LOR from any chairman or faculty there, include your work experience in your personal statement.

Volunteering job is not a waste of time and is not a gap in the CV.

In fact, it's a positive point in your CV.

In ERAS, there's a special section for volunteer jobs, it's high regarded by US doctors (specially program directors).

Tell him the truth. Many IMGs face troubles like you did and it's not something to be ashamed of.
