Any volunteer is nice in your CV

Any volunteer work will be good in your CV, but the best ones are those medically related or those related to humanitarian services.

Examples:
Volunteer in hospitals.
Volunteer in research.
Volunteer in Red Cross.
Volunteer in local community helping sick patients.
Volunteer in geriatric care units.
Volunteer in schools helping children.
Volunteer in under-served areas (such as Africa and poor countries).

Bump!

I have the opportunity to do volunteer at a hospital. The problem is that the city where I live, which is small, is over-flooded with med-students and pre-med and people wanting to go into nursing and all other healthcare carriers. This is making volunteer opportunities quite competitive where I live because of course they all want it on their CV.

My question is, most likely if I do get a volunteer opportunity, it'll be in the hospital, but I doubt that it'll be in close contact with patients. It's very likely that i'll be placed delivering flowers or even selling things at a gift shop. Should I take it anyway?

Another problem is that they ask for a year commitment and I can do 6 months maximum because I also have to line up other USCE in addition to preparing for my boards. Also, how much time of volunteer work is considered good?

And when they say research volunteer, do they mean you are participating in the project as like a patient or are you actually part of the team conducting a study?

Any input is greatly appreciated. ;)
