Certificate Dean Letter; Original or Copy!

As am starting my preparations to the match, I faced many questions this forum helped me to solve, but still am left with another question I would like someones help, although am sure it was discussed here before, but I can't seem to find the direct answer to it, so plz if anyone can help with it, I'd be more than thankful, here is the deal

Am an IMG and now I live in USA, and as you all know we need to get a deans letter to send with the other supporting letters to the ECFMG, so my question is, can I assign one of my friends back home to get me the letter and they send it back to me by email (so it gonna be a scanned copy not the original one) would that be OK? or it has to be sent by regular mail and what should the dean write in the letter? would it make a difference if the dean is not the same person in my years at the college ?

Thank you in advance

You cannot use a scanned copy, it has to be the original letter with a live dean signature and the college stamp and the official letterhead paper of the college.

Yes, the dean can be different from when you were in school. In fact, it has to be the current dean, not the old dean. ECFMG knows who's the current dean in your school specially if there are other students from your college applying to the USMLE.
