Question Can I transfer to a better program in PGY2

I join whatever program I get this yr.(community program) and do the PGY1 and then want to take a transfer next year to a big university.

Is that possible/feasible?

Possible but extremely difficult.

The problem is that when you join a residency program, your salary and funding will be written for 3 years. If you leave them, they will have issues with funding and their program will face difficulties in scheduling and several other administrative issues.

Also, when you leave a program against their will, the PD will put you in the black list and will never write for you a letter of recommendation and that can possibly ruin your future career.

The only way to get that done smoothly is by swapping with another resident, i.e. you go there and someone from there comes in your place. This is certainly difficult if your community program is bad and has bad reputation.
