Default Yep...still no interviews.

Don't know what happened to previous thread (I'm guessing accidentally deleted?). So I'm going to start another one here. You know...because some of us still have no interviews, lol.

I've contacted all the people I know to speak to PDs, and I'm waiting on their response. If that doesn't work, when should we start thinking about emailing PDs? And does that ever really work?

I'm sorry that you don't have any interviews.

I have had a little luck emailing PDs that I had connections to (i.e. met at conference, emailed to inquire about a new program starting, my mentors' PDs). But I also emailed a program that I was highly interested in because I already had an interview scheduled in that area. I ended up getting an invite a couple days later.

Hope this is helpful.

At this point, I really don't think it's worth the money unless it's a special circumstance (i.e. you have a connection, etc.). Even if I wanted to, I can't really do any more damage to my credit card right now.

Sorry to post this news, but I know of one residency program in South Dakota who was a BIG IMG provider is now switching to all, if they can, USA residents. This is because of Satellite campuses and there are just so many more USA trained med students that now there is no spots for IMGs.

They'd take usmle scores of 80's from a USA person than a 99 from IMG
its just the way its heading

That came from the program director himself

FWIW, a friend of mine with average scores only began to get IV a couple of days ago. By today, this person already have 6, surpassing the # of my IV though I got it from early Oct.

No one knows how one's fate will fold. Doesn't matter when you get the IV. Or how many. What counts is how you perform on your IV.

The increase # of AMG is not something we can get our hands on. However, the quality of our interview is in our own hands. Prepare well. Be the best you can and hope/pray/whatever works for you- that you will find favor in the interviewer's eyes.

Hey..Please tell that one friend really does exist and its not just a hearsay..
I just have 1 interview till date and this is really stressing me out now. Dun know wat to plan next..
When I applied I was really hopeful with scores 236/238/pass/220 but now with no calls I feel lost..
Need advice as wat more other than emailing PD's we could do???

This is someone I personally know. She wrote to programs stating interest and request for her app to be reviewed. Within several days she got several IV. Scores were similar to yours. <3 YOG.

I can't advise you what to do other than contacting programs/any contact you know, as I am also inexperienced and this is my first match season. look at patriciaserrano blog. She also struggled early on.

Focus on your IV prep. Don't let self pity cause you to not prepare well and in the end blew up the one chance you have now. I am reminding myself of this each and every day as it is very easy to wallow in worry.

Your scores are good I am surprised. Did you apply late? Do you require a visa and do you have US clinical experience? If you applied late I would just wait it out like I am, eventually they'll get around to it I hope

Nope I applied right on time on 16th sept..but yes I do require a visa.
The only thing I can think of is that I have residency done in my home country so I am 4 1/2 yrs from grad. Also, I am in california and dont have a PTAL so didnt apply in CA..Do u think the location makes a diff?

Ok yes the year of grad would make a diff, not your current location though. Many people I know didn't bother with CA either. US experience also makes the diff of course. Anyway hold strong! I think many programs are still reviewing their pile of applications.

St.Elizabeth's Psych in Boston.

I was really hoping for something in Illinois for personal reasons, but at this point, I'll be glad to get an interview on the moon, Alhamdulilah.

Around when did you apply and where did you attend medschool? Your app looks good enough I would expect that some programs send IVs over next couple weeks.

Guys i applied exactly on the 16th sept. I did 3 months of electives, 3 of externship and 1 observership. Applied to nearly 190 IM programs in addition to a few FM, peds and med peds programs. My LORs however are all from IM doctors. I never thought that my application was this bad. USCE, Step 3 nothing seems to be helping.

I think what's hurting you the most is the CK score. I know people with similar scores in Step1 but they also did average on CK and they've received over 10 invitations.

Is anyone still in this boat? I have only one IV so far. I see people on other threads that have 4-5 IVs and they are freaking out ... so I'm at a totally different level in terms of freaking out at this point.

I hear ya. I have a couple but certainly not as many as I thought I would. I can only hope that this month will be busy because the last few weeks have been dry as paper.

Everyone in this thread needs to actively start contacting programs. Sending out emails and calling etc. to achievable community programs. This window is closing, so use this time.

Im sorry DrAS I know how hard it is I waited an entire year last year with not a single invite, its crushing. But just keep at it, and I promise something good will turn up. Its easier said than done, I really feel you cause I didnt believe that when I had no interviews and people said that to me. We are all in the same boat.

Here we go ladies and gentlemen, probably the last truly significant week. I wish the best for all of us. And don't forget, all that will happen is what was meant to happen.

So, chin up! And keep those prayers coming!

Your stats arent bad. This year has been really competitive, and some with 230+ had trouble getting interviews (especially in situations where visa is needed).

which specialty or specialties did you apply to?

I never really reply to any posts. I feel a lot of negativity sometimes on these forums and so I feel compelled to tell you. We are all in this together and Your stats aren't bad at all. I am in the same boat with similar stats, I am currently doing clinical research and a Masters (at a top university), presenting my thesis at various conferences while conducting research with physicians that are well connected. Also working as a Health Science Instructor at a college.

I had excellent grades through medical school. LORs written by directors which I have been assured are amazing. I interview incredibly well as I am comfortable with people and can speak positively about myself and share insight without sounding overconfident.

Now despite all of this...I have not matched since my graduation year (2013) and received 2 interviews the first year I applied, none the second year and again this year nothing.

I have actively worked to make my resume better. I have networked. I have done it all...

So to this I say. It is not us. It is this weird system that is set up to make us feel like no matter what we do...we aren't good enough.

Try to stay positive. Pursue your passions in the field of medicine, outside of residency and keep on truckin' because one day someone somewhere will notice and give us our shot.

Goodluck friend.

I didn't get any either. This year people with all scores above 230 have struggled to get interviews so it won't be fair on my part to whine. However that doesn't change the fact that this is totally demoralizing and heart breaking.
I am at a loss where to go from here

The problem is most likely the scores. The programs use filters to go through application. A 230 filter for step 1 and a 230 filter for step 2. If you are not filtered by the first you will most likely be filtered by the second.

I sympathize with you that you did not get any interviews but try pursuing a graduate degree, research, or establish connections during electives and research.

Quite a few people got interviews with average scores including myself. I am an average scorer. Applied for Rads and got a few interviews luckily.

Keep hoping you will probably be on the wait list for some programs and you might be called eventually.

Its sometimes so scary to even think that you don't have any ivs!! just one 214 made it difficult to get a single iv!! 6 months hands-on I guess is electives!! Fresh Grad!! I think it portrays the current scenario of Super-IMGs are the only IMGs..For people like me who are holding breath with 210s in Step 1 and just graduated looking for next year Match, it is just depressing and demoralizing..I can only hope you get a few ivs now!!
Take care!!

I applied 80 family, 80 psych

What frustrates me is I always scored above +230 on my NBMEs but it never translates well on the actual exam. I guess its because I'm a slow reader. During CK I completed blocks without having time to actually read some of the questions.

I kept being told throughout medschool/clerkship that my grades were enough for interviews. But people and myself forgot to factor in that I need a visa, so things get more tough.
