Planning Preparing for Match 2013

First of all, my plan is structured to have everything in order by the 1st September 2012, I think I'm correct by saying that I will apply for the 2013 Match? (1st question)

Then a little bit about myself: I just received my USMLE Step 1 score (244/99) and I'm waiting confirmation for 5 months USCE-Clerkship starting in October. I'm planning on doing CS while I'm in the US and then CK in June-July.

2nd question: With this schedule, am I on time to apply for the 2013 Match?

3rd question: What should I be preparing 1 year in advance? Californian Letter? VISA stuff? I'm new to the all process and I'm trying to get as much information as possible, so even if you are thinking about obvious stuff tell me anyway! =p

and 4th question: What are my chances to Match in a good IM program? Besides my 244/99 and (fingers crossed) my 5months USCE-Clerkship I will be a young (23years) and recently graduate (graduation in July 2012) hoping for a similar Step 2 score, looking for VISA (I'm not sure about this one-don't know all the possibilities).

Hope someone can help me,
Thank you,
Calhad

Thumbs Up Yes, go ahead

Yes, you are correct. When you apply in September 2012, you are applying for March 2013 match.

Your Step 1 Score is compatible with an IM-match, so keep up the good efforts with the other steps.

Your USCE will help you a lot in getting LoRs and will highly increase your chances.

Your plan/schedule is adequate enough to be ready on September 1st 2012.

You need to prepare for getting a Visa to do the USCE, the CS exam, and the residency interviews, a visit visa would be fine.

You should start applying for California letter in April 2012.

Wishing you all the luck.

Thank you for the reply! One more question, about the VISA for the residency: How can some IMG students apply for the Match without needing a VISA? Is there something I can do to have a VISA for residency (H-1b or J-1, correct?) before the Match?

Hi, yep 1 used 2 very useful sites:

You need to be lucky, have a good application and apply early. Good luck!

H1b and J1 Visa are offered to you after you get the match, you can't get it before that.

Maybe I am wrong but I've read some matching experiences from IMGs who didn't need a VISA. It makes the matching much more easy. How do they do it?

And ApplicantGuide gave an information a couple of hours ago, in the thread "How to start the 2012 match application" that make me think: "2-i guess ecfmg sponsor j1 visas, contact them for more info."

IMGs who don't need Visa have other status, like they are Green card holders or US citizens or on J2 Visa (spouse of J1) or on refugee status ...etc
Yes, the ECFMG sponsors the J1 visa, but that's after you get the match not before it.

USCEs sometimes require J1 but I can be wrong.

Usual visas for the Steps are tourist ones.

Both won't be jobs that pay so with either J1 or tourist, I don't think you'd be breaking any laws
