Unhappy 199 Step 1 for Peds?!

Hey guys,

I'm a Caribbean medical school student and I just got my step 1 score. I was hoping to get at least a 210 but everything went horribly wrong and I got a 199 . I'm really interested in Pediatrics. Do you think I have a chance at matching into a Peds residency? I'm currently studying for ck hoping to aim high and not rushing this time. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thanks!

Chances are always there study hard for step 2, do some research, get USCE apply to the right programs and i mean, low tier programs in places that are IMG friendly and in the periphery. make connections and you might have some chances.

Please if you value money do not spend it on programs that people with 240's dont have chances of getting a interview there.

I matched with step 1 score of 200 in IM. since you're carib grad, you have the advantage of doing all your rotations in US which counts as USCE. apply widely. aim for a better step 2 score. This year, i know a couple of carib grads getting interviews with multiple attempts. dont lose hope! maybe you should apply for both IM and peads.
if you're a citizen, apply to all the programs which dont sponsor visas and dont have high score requirement because then you wont be competing with people who have great scores but need visas. the program i matched doesn't sponsor visas but is university affiliate and offers multiple fellowship positions as well. I was very discouraged with my scores as well but it worked out for the best.

you definitely have a chance. apply widely and to alot of community programs as well. 1.5yrs of USCE is very good. did you already apply for 2015 match?
