Question The 5 Years after Graduation Cut off!

Do you think that after 5 years, residency matching becomes really tough even with good credentials like 90 in both steps without attempts....and with greencard and USCE...suppose such persons are 6 years out of med school then??????

Default Yes. It reduces the chances

Crossing the 5 year post graduation years tremendously reduces the chances even if the applicant is having strong profile.

The reason is that many residency programs filter out applicants with more than 5 years since graduation automatically and they even do not look into the file.

The issue of old grad has been discussed on hundreds of threads before. You can look up these threads by clicking on the Old-Grads tag link at the bottom of this thread.

Default but....

dont you think its illogical??? suppose an applicant is just few days or few months above 5 year graduation cut off, that will make him incompetent and non-competitive???? isn't it ridiculous????

Yes. It's ridiculous but the problem is that residency programs use automated filters to filter out applicants, so the computer just filter anybody above 5 years, even if it was by one day!

Am not saying that all residency programs do that, but many of them does.
