Default Keeping in touch with an attending?

Hello fellow IMGs!

I did an elective rotation last year, but I wont be applying until next year. My attending agreed on giving me a recommendation letter, but I want to keep in touch with him so he does not forget to do so. Can anyone tell me if this is an appropriate email to keep in touch with him?

I get that he must receive hundreds of emails each day so I tried to keep it short and to the point. Any advice will be appreciated.

Dear Dr. ------,

I want to give you a quick update about my progress towards my application for IM residency in the United States. I recently passed my USMLE step 1 test, and after graduating from medical school last month I started working in my Medical School as a teaching assistant for first year medical students in IM clerkship.

I will continue working and studying to complete the rest of the USMLE tests next year, and apply to residency match in 2015. I wanted to thank you again for the enjoyable experience I had last year in the CHF clerkship .

Best Regards

The problem is that you donŽt want to sound awkward or bore them with a lot of personal information. Well I guess short and sweet is the way to go. IŽll keep you updated.
