Default Why unmatched after good number of interviews???

I keep hearing stories of people who didn't match last year even with 10+ interviews and others who matched with very few. What do you guys think is the possible reason?
My interviews are going average, does that put me in the risk of not being matched?
Need opinions and experiences..thank you

I know someone last year who had scores of 230+, us citizen, who didn't match. he had many interviews but he only ranked the university programs and didn't rank any community or uni affiliates ones. sadly, none of the univ programs ranked him high enough so he ended up not being matched.
my advice to everyone is, rank ALL the programs, unless you would rather risk going unmatched. you can always get the fellowship that you want if you put in the effort to do alot of research while in residency, even if it's a small community program.
