Default US Citz + European Med school = General Surgery

Be our guide if you will. What would you advise to US-citizen students who will acquire their MD in Europe, and wish to match a General Surgery residency in USA.

1. WHICH CLINICAL ROTATIONS SHOULD WE TAKE IN USA?
Most reputable programs allow 4-6 month rotations in US hospitals. Some even allow 2 full years in US like University of Lublin.

2. HOW IMPORTANT IS REPUTATION OF HOSPITALS AT WHICH ROTATIONS ARE DONE?
For example, Wycoff Med Center in Brooklyn hosts many IMGs (for better or worse). Does that mean US Surgical Program Directors are biased against Wycoff and alike?

3. WHAT AREA OF ACADEMIC RESEARCH SHOULD WE FOCUS ON?
Should we participate in research state-side only? Should we attempt a research rotation? - John Hopkins hosts IMGs for their research rotations.

4. IF YOU HAD A CHOICE b/w THE FOLLOWING, WHICH ONE AND WHY?
Assuming both options have statistically similar residency matches.
A. A program that offer 2 full years of clinical rotations in US, but at non-spectacular facilities.
B. A program that offers 4-6 months in US, but at nicer facilities. For example, Jagiellonian Uni in Poland offers electives at UCLA.

1. Probably you should take a rotation in surgery?
2. Yes reputation is important
3. No, Yes, and if you did research at hopkins even better
4. If both options have the same match outcomes, whichever you prefer
