Can we please put together a list of the IMG friendly hospitals for IM here. I'm not planning to apply to a 100+ hospitals and I really need to shortlist the most likely places.

Dont be scared dude. Its natural. Most of the people who would comment here will have 99/99 while lower ones try to hold back scores. If you see 5-10 posts saying 99/99 dont be afraid

Why are we still using the 2-digit format i this thread while from now onwards only 3 digits will really matter.

I will be the brave one and list the worst qualification:

238(99)(1)/224(92)(1)/CS(2)/no USCE/IMG(2007)/Need J1

And I am applying with a lot of enthusiasm

LOL this is nowhere near a "worst" application. There is definitely selection bias on these forums that make even stellar CVs seem below mediocre. I won't lie, I am a victim of this mentality too. Your attitude is the best, just be proud of your accomplishments and apply with enthusiasm. Good luck to all of us!

nana.. its just a database... not the comprehensive one.. what you will be able to figure out is where you stand scorewise (very rough idea) and when interview calls are going out (quite good idea).

Default Just for fun, posting my side.

I'll keep it simple.

Did my Step 1, CS, CK in that order. I believe it hurt me doing CS before CK since I didn't have "fresh step 1 knowledge" for CK, especially given the fact that I only had 5 weeks time for CK.

Scores: 232/99, Pass, 192/77 all on 1st attempt and all within April - August (4 month time period).

Now you go figure, how can you get a 232 then a 192? Really, I ask myself the same question. However, ever since I got my score report, I knew not to question the USMLE board. If they say I got a 77, then I guess I did.

Anyway, I'm a US-born CMG (2009), aiming for I.M Have about 1 year USCE in diff medical offices and a small psych hosp. Applied to 70 programs on Sept 3 and received a response by Sept 6 from 1 program that they will review me and will let me know in 7 days time. (++faith)

Oh sorry to hear that, with your good credential, the only reason they rejected you is visa status....
Hopefully you will get some interviews from good hospital....this is just a beginning...don't worry

Post In following pattern please.

Default Iphone match app

Hi guys, best of luck to us all!!

I'm IMG, no USCE, grad 2008, some research experience in med school.
Only non-american LORs.
Currently in IM residency 3rd year.
Step 1 = 92, Step 2 CK = 99, Step 2 CS Failed first attempt...so annoying. Past on second. Past Step 3 too.
Applying only to IM.

So far got 3 IV, one from arguably "bad" St Barnabas from Bronx, one from small NJ hospital and one from some Phili suburb hospital. 3 rejections too.

While browsing through my Ipad app catalogue I found this thing
http://www.usmle-forums.com/usmle-mo...rmp-match.html

An application named "MatchDr",

it's an app for planning interviews. Scales okay on Ipad, I guess looks fine on Iphone (I have android phone ) . I'm gonna try it and post my impressions here.

Hello, Now a days residency are getting really tough .... lots of people with triple 99 are not even getting enough interviews .... Residency match is a gamble ..... Lots of program require 85 or above in both step , some req 90 and above .... So you should try commu aff and comm hospital , even its a bit late , lots of program already send iv's, but before Oct its ok .... If you have money apply few of those program .... till now how many iv's did you get ....

I've not taken any yet. It sounds quite depressing.
How much per application you're talking about?
Good luck to all

Probability of IMG getting there is about 40%. My probability would be the least. I need a miracle. My first year to join.
> YOG 15 yrs ago (I do not look old. This may be the oldest in the forum)

I just think not to be stressed by your scores guys. As long as I breath, I will serve the needy and I will be there. It was not my intention to be here but I think I am here for a purpose.

ProbABLY in a SNF taken cared of by you guys (LOL). Goodluck to all.

Hi I have been a silent observer of this thread.. My creds are 237/242/passed 1st attempt/YOG2010/2 months USCE/3 US LORs/ need visa.. Applied to 170 IM programs...

I have not got a single interview till now and 2 rejections on top of it... I would like to know from anyone with experience if there is still some hope or not... And also if u could give some insight into why it is happening...

I think getting double 99 is of no use ,even if you get 85+ with some god father you get a residency.I think this is not fair for anyone.Even after double 99 and M.D general medicine in my home country I am getting rejections.I think knowing someone in program is most important thing rather than getting scores.

Geez. I'm planning on applying for Internal Medicine in 2014. I hope not everyone is as good as you guys! Anyhow, the two-digit score has, of this month, changed because too many people were getting 99s with a huge score difference between them. So to everyone who is planning on applying to Internal Medicine and hasn't done the tests yet (like me, because I'm still a student), I'd advice you to focus more on the three-digit score.

Anyhow, from what I've read most applicants with a score above 225-230 will be granted an interview. Once there, a whole lot other things besides tests scores are of importance. Not that I won't try getting one of those double 99s!

Step 1 not yet / Step 2 not yet / CS not yet / IMG / 2013 / 5 months of USCE / J1, H1 / Currently writing an article

I do not understand the scoring. You have a 79 with 195. I recently got my step 2 ckscore and I got a 78 with 211. So depressed. Got a 224/96 on step 1. Losing all hope.

Step 2 = 99/229
CS = Passed 1st attempt , Ecfmg certified

USCE = 2 month of externship and one month observership
No gaps in CV ,

Applied to 150 IM Programs ,
Got only 2 calls till now ,

The scoring sytem has changed. Its your 3 digit score (211) that matters.

Totally agree with you. Don't be overwhelmed with the good qualifications that shows up here....there were good examples of those who failed one of the steps or all of them at the first attempt but they are optimist. Think positive and always keep in mind where there is a will there is a way............ LLLLLLOVE this forum

Correct Answer

Many programs require at least 6 month of hand on USCE not just observership, I am doing the research and it states on so many of their website that Observership, research is not hand on.

I called/emailed a couple of programs coordinators, they told me this

"Please get your LOR writer to indicate the interaction you had with her was hands one clinical experience or clinical rotations, also bring an evaluation form from the preceptor/physician to the interview, yes we require at least 6 month of USCE, NO OBSERVERSHIP/RESEARCH is not USCE "

I believe this is one of the reasons why so many people with 99/99 dont get interviews.
