Hi. I am probably the oldest applicant here---YOG 1989. Finished Steps 1, 2 and 3 (99/99/93), practiced Psychiatry for 12 years before coming to the US.

So far, have invites for interview at: Mt Sinai in Elmhurst, Lincoln Hospital in NY, Albert Einstein Med Ctr in PA and invite to sit for an entrance examianation in Jamaica/Brookdale.

1 rejection from Bergen Hospital in NJ.

Dear friends,
I have applied for 49 places. So far , 3 invitations,1 invite to sit for an entrance examination in Jamaica/Brookdale.
My questions are:1) I would like to know what are peopleīs opinion about this entrance examination in Jamaica/Brookdale
2) A rejection will always come or you should also consider an empty e-mail a rejection?
Thanks,
Good luck for everyone!

Default Exam at Jamaica/Brookdale

I think the exam is just one other way to help them sift through the many applications they receive. It will also filter out those who will not exert the effort to go to the exam. Since the exam will include an essay part, I believe there is some value to that. Psychiatry is a field which requires very good written communication skills. Psychiatric reports require a lot of narrative writing. This will not be reflected even in high USMLE scores.

As to your question about "empty emails", yes, I believe that no response may also mean a rejection. At this stage though, it may be too early to say that all the programs have given out all the invitations there are to give. One assistant program director I spoke with told me that they do not feel they are obliged to send out an acknowledgement or a rejection letter. They just simply ignore those applications that they deem unworthy of a second look. Anyhow, not all programs are the same. Some have the courtesy of informing the applicant where he or she stands.

Hey friends,

I am still waiting for the I/Vs, actually I am waiting for the CS results and only after that I would get the majority of I/Vs. I HAVE APPLIED TO 88 PROGRAMS AND WILL APPLY TO MORE AFTER I GET cs RESULT.

I have 4 rejections until now- U of Colorado, U Penn,U of Rochester,TEXAS A&M.

Well 3 of these are expected for any IMG I GUESS.

I/V-NADA

Did anybody get I/V from Rochester.

I agree with you and think that each facility has itīs own rules .What makes me wonder is why they do not tell that in advance before we apply for the program.I think going through the whole process required by ECFMG is already a hard thing to do.But thanks for your input and Good Luck
