Good day. My boyfriend and I are applying for the 2012 Match (IM for me and Patho for him). Can I just a question in his behalf?:)
What do you think are his chances? Here are his credentials:
1. Scores: 84 (1)/75 (1)/ fail(2x)
2. Since he will be taking the step 2 CS with me this October (3rd attempt), he will be only ECFMG certified by Jan 2012, at the latest.
3. YOG: 2005
4. IMG but a US citizen
5. Already finished a 4-year combined AP/CP Pathology residency training and already a diplomate in Anatomic Pathology of the specialty board in Pathology in our country
6. Has 5 LORs (2 USLORs, 3 from home)
7. No USCE
Because his application is limited by some filters (YOG, scores), we checked each pathology program in all states and he is only eligible to apply for 24 programs. He actually has already applied last week and is yet to get IVs.

Encouragements are welcome, so are "reality-check" advices too.:) Thanks!

Two interviews so far, Baystate/Tufts and University of Massachusetts, no rejections received as of yet.

Applied to 27 programs, all self researched as to not waste money on programs I don't qualify for. We also didn't want to spend money on "lists" that are pre-made as we saw some of the programs on some of those lists and they were either not IMG friendly or they had programs that were closed or not accepting applications anymore. We only want to live in a certain part of the country, so that limited my programs as well.

I didn't apply until the middle of September, so I have to disagree with some of the posts in other threads saying if you don't apply the first day you won't get interviews. While that may be true in some specialties and with some prestigious programs that receive thousands of applications; it's not true for all programs. Apply with an application that is the best you can make it, it's worth the wait not to rush it 'just because'.

- Scores: 227(1)/226(1)/CS(taking Oct 14th)
- IMG/2008/Green Card
- Some USCE in hospital pathology setting
- 2.5 years working as Dr. in Denmark(ortho surgery, ER, Military GP, Abdom surgery)
- 2 publications in Denmark
- 3 LORs, 2 US (one from Hospital Pathologist I've been working with) 1 Danish LOR

It wasn't one specific website. I went to each program's individual website and looked at their requirements. It takes some time, but it was well worth it. It's your future career at stake as well as your money for the application fees. That deserves proper thorough research, don't you think? If the program didn't list the info I was looking for, I emailed them and asked. There was an email contact for residency questions on every program's page I went to and pretty much all of them answered within a few days.

If you're looking for a list to find all the programs that have residencies, you can get an up to date list of all the programs that can be applied to on the following websites. They have direct links, phone nos. and emails:

www.acgme.org (the guys that approve the programs that go into ERAS)
www.ama-assn.org (American Medical Association)

You can also use FREIDA to click the link to the program website to get each programs detailed information. At the end of the day, there is no ONE specific website that will have 100% of the correct/up to date information about every single program. You just have to go to each of their program websites and look it up if you want correct info.

As far as the visa/step 3 question, sorry, since I don't need a visa I am not familiar with the rules regarding visa sponsorship. There are several threads in the forum where they discuss visas. Also the individual program websites sometimes have specific requirements that they will list. You can always email a program you're interested in and ask them.

Greetings! I would just like to ask your advise on how to increase my chances of getting matched in a pathology residency training program. I am an IMG, YOG (1995) and have practiced pathology in my country of origin for 9 years. I have not started taking step 1 yet but plan to do so next year. What would be the ideal scores I need to get in order to be matched? I am however not that confident in taking step 2 CS because in my 9 years of Pathology, I have not been in clinical practice. What course of action or form of review program would you suggest for me to prepare for the step 2 CS? I have heard of observerships and workshops for this and want to ascertain if they are ideal for my case. any advise or guidance would be highly appreciated.
