Default How is YOG calculated?

Hey guys,

I need help to calm these nerves down.

I graduated Nov 2010 and my initial plan was to apply this match but things got in the way and stuff. You know. So, I'll apply next match.

Will I be filtered by most programs because of the 5 year limit?

It kind of sucks because at the time of application I will be 4.5 years out of med school and if they count up until start of residency, I'm screwed.

Insight on what you know about this. Especially those older grads applying this match.

THANKS!

If you have gud scores and USCE you will be able to get decent number of interviews especially if you also have green card.. I know 2009 graduates who have 6-7 interviews this season..

What do you mean by good scores? The years since graduation should be calculated by using the time at which you applied and not when residency starts......right??

Depends on the program. Some count it to the year of applying. Some count it to the year you start residency. I knew this from calling several programs as I too was in the border of YOG limit.

do programs consider residency in home country for borderline graduates?

I graduated in December 23 2011 . I am a final year resident in India.. Will apply in the coming match cycle.. I have a GC ... Will my residency affect the way they screen out applications.. Is there a way of preventing the screening?

That's the thing. My YOG is 2010 but I had to do a mandatory residency in my home country that stretched into 2012. Perhaps we can explain stuff like that somehow.

Some programs have 235 cut off , some have 220 , I think GC and home residency does make a difference. . Cause I was asked about it on a couple of interviews...

Do you know any 2009 graduates who were deemed beyond 5 years since graduation in your match??

A few ppl I know from places I interviewed at had yog 2009 and they told me they had around 6-7 interviews... but at some places my yog was the oldest... and there are programs that only give invites to 2-3 years fresh grads.. so it definitely varies from program to program...
