Question Residency Match ERAS Repeat Applicants?

Hey, i have a question regarding Repeat Applicants. I'm going to apply to a few programs this year with an incomplete profile. I'm not expecting much but my objective, this match round was to get some LORs onto the system as some of my previous bosses (at high posts) will be retiring later this year. Anyway, have heard a lot about repeat applications not being a very good idea. Obviously, if I were to apply for a spot the next year with the entirely same profile it wouldnt bode well, but if i work on it with research observerships, etc wouldnt that make a difference?
I guess what im trying to ask is - how is a repeat application bad?
looking forward to a response from some stalwarts here! thanks!

Hi
No one of the PDs will recognize you as a repeat applicant. Don't worry about it.

hey applicantguide
thanks for the response. But I dont really understand. If I apply to a few this year and with full strength next year wouldn't that count me in as a repeat applicant?

@bandar, who will know that you are a repeat applicant and HOW????

No body can know this information unless you give them your oasis user name and password. Programs don't know that you are a repeat applicant and they don't have filters for repeat applicants.

Arrow Programs can know you are repeat applicant

Disagree with ApplicantGuide,

I know at least three programs who filter repeat applicants. They can know that in their ERAS station or at least by the AAMC ID no.

Am not saying that this is a widespread problem but as I said I do know few programs that screen out repeat applicants.

As far as I know, if you apply to the same program again, then they can know that you are a repeat applicant, but if you are applying to a certain program for the first time, as in you didn't apply to that program last time, they have no means of knowing that you are applying for the match for the second time.

I disagree with Sabio,

According to my knowledge with PDWSs, it have no option to filter repeat applicants nor the ability to save applications from previous years; can you please provide us with an official link descriping this filtering process? thank you.

I think all of them just say that... I think they check if you are ECFMG verified more than anything.

Question

Yeah, the reason that this question cropped to mind is that id be certified earliest by mid oct to end oct. So ill apply to some programs in the first week of september. then try my luck with others later on in...So am going in with not too many expectations. in the case that i dont match this year will be applying again next year after improving my profile. As sabio mentioned, have heard the same thing about some programs filtering out repeat applicants..but haven't had any confirmation of the same...so am a little sketchy about this issue...so!
