Default Thank you note

Is it really essential to write a thank you note after the interview. What if you did not get the email address of the interviewer and you are already a late week?

I guess late is better than never... i sent mine anyway even though it was 2 weeks late, i figure if they have forgotten me, it might prompt them to look at me file again
