Default Pre mattched!!! low scores / a lot of hard work to improve my cv, is that real?

hi i am a young img physician repeat applicant (did not match last year), last year got 8 iv, refused 2 pre matches and did not match finally, was the most painful moment of my life. I used to dream with very big hospitals, actually despite my 20Xs ... 21X.... SCORES, i got some university programs. This year I took step 3, of course I passed everyhing in first attempt my cv and lors are awesome, but don't know why my scores were not good anyway i did my best despite of thousands of obstacles. I was offered an IM prematch, finally I am in the system, should I be happy? ... i don't know why im not happy .... but the only rewarming thing is that I did everything I could. Thank god.

Let me guess Mount Sinai.

You should feel proud!

you know how many people try and never get this?

You are one of the elite few my friend!

And trust me, IF YOU ARE GOOD, if you do research and set yourself up as a good doctor, you can get practically any fellowship you want.

Congratulations

Now enjoy your Christmas!

Yes, you should be happy. You said it just right, You did everything you could do, and you let the rest in Gods hands, and He came through and you are finally in the system . Many people will wish they were in your place!
Ultimately, that was the final Goal wasnt it?.
As for the hospital where you matched, even if it wasnt your first choice, remember this will only be another phase in your training life, so make the most of it
btw, would you care to tell me were did you pre-matched? Im interested also in IM but wont be able to be on the match until 2016.

Hi,

Very inspiring story.. Could you please tell me how much time approximately does it take for preparation for a publication.

I have some topic in hand but I'm not sure of time it takes n how to plan for it.
Any help and advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Thank you for the note. Well it depends, if it is basic science research or clinical/epidemiology research. Try to do it as a first author and to submit in american congress. If it is basic science research can takes years, clinical research is faster.

Best

Hi Paolo.
Congratulations. I'm happy for you.
Can you advise me. I recently got my step 1 score. 218. I want to match in Pediatrics.
Could you please guide me how to get research. Is it possible only through contacts? I don't have any contacts.

Hi, sunshine, thank you for the post.
Peds is not competitive as it is int medicine, most of people match in peds. I strongly recommend you to get a higher score in step 2, and take definetely step 3 before residency, it helps a lot mostly to imgs. Your research MUST BE in peds, sadly i have no contacts in peds cause im IM. It is not necesary to get a best paper in the best journal, but at least one in a decent english journal is good. Ask to ur professors in ur country if they have a research almost done and u want to help in them, but dont waste too much time in research, concentrate in ur steps. hope it helps. Paolo

I will follow your advice and try to focus on Step 2 for the time being.
