Unhappy Step 1 score 218. Please guide. Any chance in Pediatrics?

Hi everyone
I'm an Indian IMG, need a visa and I will graduate next year.
I have 2 electives in Internal Medicine.
I just got my step 1 score and I'm really disappointed with it. I got a 218
I was hoping for atleast a 230
NBME 7 (10 days before exam) 235
NBME 12 (1 month before exam) 226
UWSA 2 245
UWSA 1 (2 months before exam) 230
I feel really depressed with this score. I've read a lot about how Step 1 lays the foundation for your USMLE journey. I have to start studying for step 2 CK but I have lost all motivation and I highly question the credibility of these assessment exams.

I want to apply in Pediatrics.

I will be very thankful if some of you can guide me. Should I continue with this journey or start preparing for Indian Postgraduate Exams.
218 is a lower score than the US average score. Do I stand a chance at
all ? Kindly help me. Please.

Hey!! Am an Indian IMG too with 213 in Step 1. Graduated in 2014 October. I gave my Step 1 way back in 2012. I went for 4 weeks Electives in Peds and 9 weeks Observership in IM during Internship and has 1 Publication in US Journal. Studying for CK, exam on March. I am pretty sure high score in Step 1 matters a lot but that does not mean a low score in Step 1 is the end of the world. Just trying to focus on Step 2 CK,, get a better score in CK, pass CS in 1 st attempt and maybe a 4 week observership and continue the journey with research. It is never the end in USMLE journey, just keep hope and stick to the system by getting to do something like Research. If Peds is your goal, go for it and if IM is your goal don't back from it because you got 218. Get a complete CV and apply for IM as well with Peds as backup because I was in a similar dilemma a year back and did not love my Peds Electives as much as IM Observerships. Hope for the best. Good luck.

Thanks a lot for the encouragement and Thanks for sharing your side of the story too. I really hope we both do really well on CK.

Could you also guide me on how can I get a publication in a US journal? And could you please tell me where did you do your pediatrics clerkship?
Thanks

I did Peds clerkship in an outpatient clinic in Atlanta. I have been involved in research work from my final year in medical scholl and got it published in US Journals. Do some research work under guidance and submit it in various journals and eventually one will like your work and accept it after peer review.
Good luck.
