Default Importance of family ties in a city for residency

Hello everyone.

I wanted to know how much of a benefit a person may have of joining a residency program, being a native from that city or region.

I once spoke to the PD of a pretty good local program where I live. The only thing that puts me behind is my YOG (2010) and the fact that I don't have USCE other than observerships. In terms of scores, I'm just a bit above average. My other benefits that I know this program values are:citizenship and I speak Spanish and English at a native level for both.

Please if anyone can shine any info on this, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

It helps for smaller programs. I Don't think the more competitive ones care about whether you have a family in a city or not.

Being a citizen/resident of the US is very helpful for the less competitive programs too
