Help Does matching in an advanced position require completiong of preliminary program?

I've already applied in ERAS to many programs, but I've always thought it was impossible to match in an advanced program (e.g. radiology) without already having completed a preliminary program (1 year for radiology). However, today I've been told I can match in an advanced program without having completed a prelim program, but I have to also secure a prelim position in the same Match, after which I can begin the advanced program I matched to 2 years ago! Is that true?

If so, I'll need to work hard these couple of days applying to a lot of prelim IM and advanced radio (because I only applied to a lot of categorical IM and only 9 categorical radio programs!).

Please advice quickly!! :sorry:
Thank you!

Thats correct, you apply in this maych to both prelim med and advanced radio and if you matched to both of them you will start pgy1 2013 and advanced 2014.

You mean I'll start prelim in 2012 and advanced in 2013, right?

And is it easy to match into prelim or TZ and advanced radiology for instance? or will I be taking a risk?
My profile: (99/99/CS pass all 1st attempt, fresh grad, 3 US LoRs, 3 mo US IM externship, 3 mo non-US radiology externship).

Also will prelim programs sponsor H1 visa? (if I pass Step 3)

Yes right, sorry for the typo.

Rdiology is competitive but for a person with double 99 it shouldn't be abig issues, apply widely to the programs in my list.

Prelim med is relatively easy to get for a person with your scores.

In general transitional year is very competitive because AMGs like to do it.

Hi,

Just saw this "old" thread
Could you please share what you did and how it worked out for you?
I am an IMG and would like to go for radiology. Seems like there are many different approaches and options in order to get residency in radiology.

Any help and advice is highly appreciated!

Best Regards
