Default Too late to send a thank you email?

I had my interviews during December but I didn't send out any thank you letters. I wanted to send them at the end of the season. Now that my interviews are over, do you think I should send out letters to programs that I interviewed in December to early January ? Is it too late?

Okay correct me if I'm wrong but this is usually how it works after interviews:

1.) Get Interviews and be a rock star
2.) After interview is over send thank you letters within a week.
3.) Rank your programs
4.) Jan-Feb time: U send letter of interests to tell your program u are going to rank them high.
5.) Pray
6.) Match!
7.) Send Reactant money
8.) Post on facebook your supreme awesomeness of getting residency and relish over the all the likes.
9.) Life complete.

Not being pessmsstic you neglected the probability of not matching, so point 6 should be if I match, If I don't and then build up the consequential cascade .

Steps 1 - Step 4 : answered your question on what to do after an interview regarding when to send letters.

Steps 5+ : were just just a bonus and for fun. I tend to look at the bright side of things.

If you dont match, no matter. You will look for observerships / externships, research. If u havent completed step 3, u then have the opportunity to and return to September 2015 a stronger candidate.

I posted my comment in an intent to find an alternative way for you to pay us money since you already stated if we match we pay you. :P

Just a little note here: More and more programs mention specifically on the interview day that thank you notes are neither required nor do they want to see them. With them having invited you and you showing up there it is already clear that there is mutual interest and that is sufficient.
Also: these "I am going to rank you high" - non-commiting messages do not have any impact because everyone knows the game and knows they don't indicate anything.
So forget points 2 and 4 and save some time.

You know what, you could be right. But every program functions differently and there's no point in taking a risk if you don't have to.

Don't take unnecessary risks. Send your thank you letters and letter of intent. Its like when someone holds a door open for you. At the end of the day, it make no difference if you say thank you; but you still do.

Reactant - good point. What I bascially wanted to say with my post was - don't be worried if you forgot to send one or something didn't arrive, it is probably not going to have a negative impact for you
