Default What would you do? Really need your opinion

Hey guys,

I really appreciate if someone tell me what my problem was.

My credentials are, Step 1: 239, Step 2: 227, CS pass ( first attempt ), YOG: 2010, 12 publications, 8 posters, 1 book chapter, 3 US LORs ( one of them was very strong and from a famous Cardiologist ) , 1 mo USCE, Good PS ( reviewed by a PD ), need visa.
I applied for 182 IM programs (competitive and less competitive) and got only
3 IVs (all from Uni programs).

What would you do for the next match if you were me?

Thank you.

And apply more broadly. Evaluate your program list. Maybe a large chunk of it consists of top tiers? Ask those with previous experience to review your program list and see if it is balanced between the top tiers, mid and community programs.

One of the common pitfalls is applying to too many big names. Your scores are decent but not too strong. Although you have quite some pubs (which probably the factor that landed you Univ iv) score is still the first filter they used. Plus your yog will be 5/6 years next year. Apply more to mid low tiers ones.

It definitely wasn't step 3. I sincerely doubt step 3 would have given you even ONE extra interview. It's definitely a plus to have, specially good scores but it doesn't make up for Step1/Ck/cs as much as we would want.

I agree with IMLover, if you could PM your list of programs i could pinpoint to you what went wrong. You probably overreached and applied waaaay too high.

This match isnt over btw, you can still match, so good luck.

Why are you thinking of next match?

3 interviews gives u a 50 percent chance of matching and lots of people have matched with only 1

keep the faith until match day

Your credentials stand out bro. Three things to keep in mind:
1. This years match is tougher than last year.
2. I hope you and I get matched this year buddy (I'm similar to your case) and have several publications and MPH with below than your scores on test with 2006 YOG. However, one thing to REALLY consider next year (lets hope we match this year), is the ERAS application and the way we laid out our resume. I think we could do better jobs in that part!
3. For sure, Step 3 needs to be done.

Good luck to all of us

hmm.. I would say that you need to apply to more community programs after seeing your list. Large bulk of it is univ programs. Unless if you would rather not matching than going to community programs.

Also, apply to more univ affiliated programs. They are generally regarded to be more academic compare to true community programs, although there's always a caveat to general statement like this. Sometimes the affiliation is really nothing more than just a name attached. Some do have stronger academic affiliation. Look for reputations in SDN forum.

Good luck! who knows you can match with that 3 interviews! Please wish me success too. Everyone is anxious around this time I guess. One can never be too confident in the match. Hope we will all match!
