After the Main Match many residency programs will post their unmatched positions on SOAP. If you participated in the Main Match you can search through the programs and apply or reapply to them. After applying, programs extend placements in a series of rounds. Each round lasts 2 hours and during this time you must either accept or reject the offer. However, once you reject an offer you will not be extended that same offer again in a subsequent round. When you accept an offer it is binding and all other offers will be rejected.

In previous years the SOAP process has favored US graduates. Programs can contact you for interviews, however, most programs will only conduct brief phone interviews.

If you do not match during SOAP it is also still possible to find a program post-match. There are also programs that will not participate in SOAP so you can apply to them once SOAP ends.

Residents Medical helps students through the SOAP process as well as post-match. If you are interested please message me and I can provide you with more information.

If you are eligible to participate in SOAP you must wait until the SOAP process is over to contact programs. Once it is over you can look on forums and various websites for post-match postings regarding vacant positions. The posting will provide you with information on how to apply.

There are many websites and forums where programs post their vacancies post-match (and post-soap) such as ResidentSwap. For more information please feel free to send me a message and I can put you in touch with one of our Education Managers.
