Default The Official ANXIETY Topic (USMLEPTSD) support group, let's wait for Match Day

Hi,

Are your nights getting longer and longer?

Are you sleeping less and less?

Are you checking your ROL every day without changing anything?

Do you come here to vent your frustrations?

Are you having flashbacks about mistakes you did in your interviews?

Are you anxious about the Match?!

Then you my friend might be experiencing USMLEPTSD!

As we all know this is a very serious but potentially treatable condition. We are all in this together, this is going to be a very painful 3 weeks D:

So let's help each other! ... Let me start!

Hi, my nickname is Drivenby and i've been on this journey since november 2011. I have sacrificed tons of hours and money into this and it seems to be finally close to paying off D:

I applied to 75 Internal Medicine programs and got 14 interviews, i could only afford to go to 11. Of those i only ranked 9 (1 was prematch, which i rejected).

I am SO nervous about the match but i'm hopeful i can get into one of my top 3 .. I just want it to to have good learning and hopefully not that cold...

Right now im studying for Step 3, not even working, just running in the morning and studying for a bit. I'm having trouble concentrating, i just wanna play Xbox and sleep . I kinda want to take step 3 by April but i'm not sure if i can...

What about you guys? how are you doing?

-PS--- please keep this a positive and supportive topic, don't ask about scores and stuff like that, if you must use PM. This is a support topic!

21 DAYS TO GO

21 DAYS TO GO
I feel you 13 invites, went to 10 and canceled the rest for a family reason that caught me in the middle, preparation for this moment since 2011, thinking of step3 yet haven't really took the step to start, very anxious of not matching.

Unhappy

I just keep obsessing about the answers I gave at the interview..I just feel like none of them went perfect and knowing you have a 1 out of 10 or 15 chance in each place you interviewed it just makes you more anxious. From what Ive heard is that they consider a lot of factors while ranking you..could someone shed some light on that?

Yes, of course.

It obviously depends on several things and it varies from person to person and institution to institution.

Most institution use a grading system for the applicants. After you are done with the interview they grade you on several stuff like presentation, communication, professionalism, and who knows what else.

An associate program director told me the following... During the interviews, they basically rule out any crazy psycho person to avoid ranking them... Then they rank them as follows : amg, usimg, j1 people, h1 people.

Default PTSD for sure...

Thank goodness this is a good place for venting.... am like so super nervous... i cant focus... i cant study properly... i cant sleep.... i wake up in the middle of the night thinking i said this in the interview i could have said it in this way and it would make them choose me... krazy right??? THEY have a set of parameters and THEY will choose whoever meets them... I felt i did okay on my interviews but you never know... i could have done everything perfectly and messed up on one thing and they can hold it against me and not choose me... i dont know... At this point what can one do.... absolutely nothing... match day seems years away... trying to study for step 3... to keep my mind busy... but nerves just wont stop... match or no match life goes on... i applied to a lot of places and only got few IVs... but a lot is on the line... time, money, hope and dreams... it feels like am hanging over a cliff by a thread of hope and if it breaks.. down down down i fall into the oblivion... But if i hold on tight enough... THEY will pull me up... ... ... ...

I know exactly how you are feeling!

I'm just taking it slow, one day at a time and try not to think to much about it.

We all tried our best and now we just need to survive a few more days

For what? They find out at the same time as us.

Some of them send "love letters" to their top applicant but that's before the rol is closed.
