Default Step 1 alone

Can you get interviews with just a Step 1 Score (a high Step 1 score 250+)?

Can you match into a residency with just the Step 1 score and the interview?

unlikely for IMG. Most program require ECFMG certification before they even review your app.

[I]not possible to match with incomplete steps. Even if you get interviews, you need to submit complete scores before rank of list. Deadline.[ /I]

But I will still be able to get interviews right? I am thinking if to apply with a step 1 score of 260 now and get interviews because I am not expecting to do as well in step 2.

After the interview, what can they tell you? Will they tell you something along the lines of accepting you ONCE you do well in the Step 2?

Do you need visa? If you do, programs tend to be more strict with us.

The non negotiable for IMG : Must be certified before ROL deadline.

Now for interview, I don't really know. Most programs have ecfmg certif as requirement or filter. That means you'll be filtered out without it and they probably won't see your step 1 score.

When are you planning to give your 2ck and cs? High scores who apply late may push through like several of my friends. Here's what I can tell you:
- One friend with 257/265/pass applied Oct 10, 2 years ago and managed to get 6 IV.
- Another with 250s/250s/pass applied on Oct 25, same year. He only got 2 IV.

So make your decision wisely.

No idea. I applied with complete scores. Anyways, never take a program's sweet talk. Both parties are trying to sweet talk the other. Nothing is guaranteed until match day.

I'm a US Citizen.
How come scores like that got so little IVs? Did they have no USCE?

Do they look at transcripts at all? I heard some residents say they don't and some say they're not sure.

I got really bad preclinical scores so I'm not sure how it affect the whole thing.

I got a friend who applied neurology last year with only step 1 (250+) and a failed CS and got two interviews.

But did he/she actually match in the end?

I am thinking of just writing CS and applying with this score before writing Step 2 CK.

Don't know about transcript. My two friends got observerships only. I think the time of applications play a role too. My scores are similar to them, applied on time, got 9 IV.

Good luck!

You applied with both step 1 and step 2 ck right?
How should I time it then? Can you give me advice about this? Thanks!

I applied complete with step 3. As to when to take your cs and ck, you have to check on the reporting schedule in usmle.org. I am not up to date with the recent changes.

You can prepare for 2 cs in 2-4 weeks. 2ck takes somewhere between 3-5 mo.

if you are looking to apply to 2016 match, maybe it would be wise for you to take CS now (since the score reporting is quite a while and you want it to be in time for september) and then focus on CK and get it done by end of august, to have the score reported as well. Are you a grad or still a student?

Student. I will be done in May. What are the cut off dates for the 2016 match? and 2017? Where can I find such data?

Septmber 15th to November 1st (some programs have December 1st) each fall is the deadline for application submission to the programs. To increase your chances of the application being looked at, aside form the obvious facts of great scores and all those goodies, you want to have your USMLE's (1, Ck, CS) and ECFMG certification done, since these are common filters for programs.

You can read on ECFMG website about registering for the ERAS and also on NRMP website about the match and important dates/dealines.
