Default Matching into General Surgery- A dream come true!

Before I start this thread let me tell you that when I started preparing for the USMLE's I was determined to take up surgery and nothing else. During this long and tedious process however, I was tempted, many a times, to take up medicine. Eventually I ended up applying for surgery and learnt yesterday that I matched.

bottom line: its not easy but its totally worth it!

creds: 261/261/pass/238 obsie 2 months/ home country work experience 6 months/ no research.

application : 80 programs (all prelim positions except 2) got 9 interviews.
one program asked me to add them and rank them for categorical.

In the end I feel after scores- YOG plus clinical work after graduation is very important and it ultimately depends on the interview.

This forum has been really helpful in terms of information available but dont believe all of it. work hard, put your best foot forward and wait to get rewarded..

I have some time before I start my residency and would love to answer any questions you guys may have till I get busy with residency.

good job, congrat's brother
but I am just wondering, despite your impressive scores, why didn't you apply to categorical positions ? is it so hard that IMG's don't even try it and apply only to prelim?

I took mine in2013 and it has changed since. Might be a good idea to get help from someone who took it recently. My experience is on the forum if you want to see my study plan
