Default unmatched IMG...Step3 or Observership+research?

Hey guys

I didn't match despite my tireless effort.

238/230/1st attempt yog=2013 IMG+ Canadian citizen

Multiple US publications, 10+ months of observership, 6 months of hands on USCE at private clinic

Question is....Take the step 3 and risk it before the next cycle OR
continue observership/find some work assisting people in research?

I'm so confused about everything after that knock out

Default Surprised!

Hey ajnashmd,
So sorry to hear you didn't match. Your CV is much better than mine. I will apply for the next match at the earliest. I'm very surprised you didn't match, based on the information you gave us. Please share some more, so that we can hopefully better help

How many interviews did you have?
How many programs did you apply to?
Did you apply mostly to middle or high-tier programs?
Where country did you study Med?
Where are your LORs from?

For what I've heard, PD's just want you to pass Step 3.
They don't pay attention to your score, as long as this Step is out of your/their way.

Resident Same

I also didn't match this time.

Step 1: 223
Step 2 CK: 240
Step 2 CS: pass
All passed on first attempt.
No publications or research.
Caribbean med school. Canadian citizen.

Applied to around 200 programs, IM only.
3 interviews - 2 went well, 1 went very well. They were all saying things like "we'd be glad to have you hear," "your scores and LORs look great," so I was a bit shocked not to get matched.

1 reason I can think of for not getting more interviews is that my CS score came in late - around mid Oct.

I'm currently studying for Step 3 AND trying to find observership/research.
Most hospitals I've contacted regarding observership are full until Sept and some until next year

I'm getting the same response in regards to obs/research.
I too got the same response in interviews. Some mentioned "its easier to get a visa to xyz citizen than it is to deal with canadians...." it caught me off guard to say the least that they'd be so vocal about it.
That being said, I don't want to play the victim card. I too am preparing for step 3. Perhaps we can join forces and tackle it together?

I didn't match either. My creds:

Step 1 - 231
Step 2 CK - 236
Step 2 CS - pass
Step 3 - 229

2011 grad

3 months of USCE.

No research

Canadian citizen
