Default IMG and Pathology

Hey all.
I am just wondering why only few IMGs apply to pathology?
Is it because of interest or is it like pathology is more competitive?
Please give your opinions. I Appreciate it.
Thanks!

Hey, prettydoc!
I'm also an IMG and very interested in pathology.
I can tell you that pathology is not particularly competitive, at least not among US graduates.
I think people are just not that interested in pathology.

It's pretty bad, the market seems to be oversaturated with residents and specialists for years and years now (it seems there were problems even in the 80's!). There are many applying for a job, you'll have to relocate for that (the prospects of landing a job on one of the coasts as a starting specialist are slim). You'll need at least one fellowship. That doesn't mean that you won't ever find a job, just that it's more difficult, even for AMGs. It doesn't compare with pediatrics or IM in terms of job opportunities.
You can find more info on studendoctor.net.
