Default Is Neuro research helpful for IM residency?

I am an IMG who graduated in 2014. My Board scores are as follows:
Step 1: 256
Step 2: 264
CS: passed in 1st attempt
Step 3: 244
Since I am done with my boards, I thought the best way to enhance my CV would be clinical research in the US. While I have been looking for an opportunity in IM-related fields, an opening in Neurology has presented itself. Would that help me match in IM next year?
Any and all input is appreciated.
