ObGyn Overseas ObGyn Resident

Hello every one in this great forum I hope you are all doing well in your USMLE marathon
I am obst and gyn resident in one of the best university hospital in my country and soon I will finish my master degree
my score in step 1 is 266 and i am 28 y.o 4 years since graduation with no pause in medical education .>>>graduate>>internship>>>resident>>>now
what do you think about my chances in getting a residency position in university program in USA
and how can i increase my chances?
thanks alot
latest news shows that obst and gyn become increasingly competitive and for img its almost impossible
what do you think about that

Hi
1-try to get similar high score on step 2
2-do 2-3 months observerships in different specialties to get US LORs (IM and obgyn), see the observership list on my site.

The candidate that I know this year who applied to ObGyn with double 99s and research experience got more than 10 interviews in ObGyn. It's competitive but not impossible if you get excellent scores. Doing a residency in your countery probably helps but i don't know how much help it can offer you
i get that answer from one freimd in america
what do you think

Your CV and experience and Step 1 score are great.

You are also not far away from the graduation year.

Come to USA, pass the CS and get high score in the CK and do a month or two of USCE and get 3 US LoRs.

I am positive you'll get into a University program.

Good luck

Default Residency at your country does help

I am a second year pediatric resident in my country. My scores are not bad but I failed the CS once. I applied to MI, FM and Pediatrics, and I got interviews in Pediatrics only.. I have no USCE no US LORs, so yes... unlike the common belief that residency outside the US, it does help, at least it shows that you are dedicated and you like the specialty

Good luck.
