I agree with fentanylum. Why would someone with 25+ IVs and presentable enough to get a prematch offer settle for St. Barnabas??

Hmm. how many people did you interview with. I havn't received any replies from anyone though I did receive a message from a PD saying the people I interviewed with thought highly of me but that seemed maybe generic. It's hard to tell thats why most programs have stopped replying to thank you emails to avoid misleading people and causing issues not that I'm saying thats whats going on with you but I hate the lack of communication in the process as it makes it hard to make a rank list based on who wants you
I IV'd with 3 people. And yeahh the PD at that program specifically mentioned that we were welcome to send thank you notes but not to expect a reply from them. Apparently all the PDs had a meeting in which it was decided that they wont reply to thank you emails as it misleads candidates. But then i got an email from them anyway :/

Most of his interviews were from community hospitals and 20 out of them didn't offer strong fellowship prospects. So his reasoning behind taking the prematch was that he wanted to become hospitalist and St Barnabas was good enough to achieve that.
I have also heard that number of American graduates are increasing this year and a lot of American MDs and DOs are interviewing at programs which were traditionally filled primarily by IMGs. Also more American graduates are applying for internal medicine and family medicine because of decreased interest in specialties like radiology. Is this true?

One of my friends had scores of 257/265/pass 1st attempt/2013 grad/5 months USCE and had 25+ IVs for IM, had attended just 4 interviews till now and took the prematch for IM at St Barnabas.
Is getting a spot in internal medicine getting so hard that people with great credentials are opting for prematch? I feel I missed a golden opportunity. I have 5 IVs. Have my fingers crossed and hoping for the best .
I can relate. Accepting or refusing a prematch offer is a tough decision. I, too have 6 interviews so far and I'm still not sure what I'd do if I were in your shoes. I'm not so courageous when it comes to such situations and I always try to play it safe.

Do you guys have information about Bronx Lebanon and Howard University programs?

LOL got an an interview from them last night as well, but i saw it this morning. There is absolutely no information about them at all. I even saw that they may be a prematch program. I wonder how long the turn around from interview to offer is and how long they give you to accept a prematch position.

Honestly I do agree that this process will upgrade from brutal to ruthless in the next few years. We may be the last of the Mohicans

It's a 350 bed hospital, isn't it?? It can't be all that bad.

Thank you notes are something we really think everyone should not read into too much. There are pretty much stock replies that the program coordinator often allowed to reply.

There are exceptions. Sometimes, you do get a specific email that explicitly states you are ranked to match. This happens very rarely, but it does happen.

We believe Thank You notes are something worth doing. They can never hurt you but you may get a rare response that actually does help.

All I'll say is that it's a state university program where I did some research during my undergrad that traditionally does not take Caribbean students. Maybe my old connection helped out.

I'm sorry for being vague. I'll post a lot more details about my interviews and stuff after the match season.

Hi guys
I got 5 interviews so far

attended 3 (North Florida Regional, Bronx Lebanon, and Rochester General) and waiting a couple of interviews (wright center and Staten Island University Hospital)

Any input regarding these two programs?

ironically, I got 4 of my interviews in November
Staten Island gave me a rejection 2 weeks ago before sending my an interview

This season is really very weird

Do you think there might be more interviews?
I applied to 85 programs all Internal Medicine

I wrote all the programs because my visa status changed. I don't know whether that had an effect.

What are your stats, if you don't mind sharing. If you're a 2010 or later graduate...... I feel for you. It sucks when people with alot lower scores get interviews cos they graduated 2 years before you.

Did you guys scheduled the interview already? If so, how? over the phone or via email? I received the email with the invite but without any attachment ( there should be attached a form to fill out with potential dates). I replied via email, and have been calling to no avail.
Any advice?

U should check your eras email to see the attached form. And try to get it done immediately because they are filling up quickly. I had to confirm on my second try because my first preferred dates became unavailable.

Hey Volkmann, Have you been able to receive a confirmation email from them ? Fortunately, I have received an interview today from them but didn't receive any confirmation from them.

I would email the coordinator by the email she gave and then call her number given by frieda. If you cant reach her there call the hospital and tell them your predicament. The hospitals are usually kind and helpful from my experience. Good luck

I went to the first of my interviews yesterday, there was supposed to be 10 interviewees but only 8 of us showed up... I really pitied that situation because that means those 2 could have went to others. I cant in all honesty say why they missed the interview but i strongly suspect they could have cancelled in time for some to be scheduled in. Coordinator did say that they are going to interview 400 applicants for 17 spots

Dismal. Sounds like a lot of people don't rank that program high on their list unless they have to.

Cool, I IV'd at Kingsbrook also. Seemed like a decent option to me, did not feel as bad as some of the reviews I read online. At least I felt the PC, PD, and residents were all very straight forward and honest about what their program has to offer. (Community program, fellowship possible [but look elsewhere if u want competative ones like cards/GI] if you put in the work, you will be worked but compensated by high pay, etc)

BTW anbody interviewed at Nevada, Reno by any chance? have an interview coming up, any tips or suggestions would be appreciated!

I interviewed there. Very pleasant program. Their match rates for pulm/CC are wonderful. You will most likely see the PD and one of the APDs. Depends on which APD you see you might get 3 common cases to work through. The APD is just testing your judgement. I heard the other APD didn't ask any medical questions or so i heard.

Yeah, but the cost of living is astronomical too.

The Crown Heights neighborhood where Kingsbrook is located is nowhere near astronomical.

Went to my second IV which was pleasant and painless but esoteric. Im starting to believe that we are already ranked and this is just a formality. Btw jersey shore sent me what seems like a mass rejection this morning but i have a confirmed IV. I wonder if i should inform the coordinator of the mistake, or should i let it go and just show up to my IV

How does the ranking system work anyway? Do they already rank applicants before inviting them to interview and then just move them around the list after the IV? Or is it that they form the ranking list only after the interviews?

I got a similar feeling too at a couple of interviews. The interviewer just asked whether I have any questions. I talked to a few applicants after the interview and even they had similar questions and received similar feedback. I believe they already prepare a rank list based on our credentials, and as long as you're not a weirdo at the interview, your rank won't change much

Don't underestimate the weight of the interview. You may go up or go down the ranking list based on the interview. Dress to impress, have good composure, ask questions, be friendly, smile, show the people at the program that you are very enthusiastic to be there.

It is true that they may already know who they want to rank highly and who you want to rank highly but they may change their minds once they interview another qualified applicant.

Give it your best. Give them a reason to choose YOU and not someone else.

Default Finally, my first IV.

I received my very first IV just this afternoon. Wyckoff.
Even before my CS result which should be reported on Dec. 9th.
I am so happy at least I have one before the score so I hope I have more to come after.
This is to all the very old IMGs out there. Be positive and Keep the faith.

This is the info I got after I googled Wyckoff Internal Medicine Residency Program.

Anyone has experience or knows about the interview process at Richmond Hospital, Maimonides and St. Johns Episcopal in NY?

I know all of them are all-in NRMP match programs.

Maimonides seems to be interviewing lot of candidates but then it could be that they have 26 or so IM categorical positions to fill.
