Guys any help on ranking

1 Bridgeport CT.
2 Norwalk CT.
3 Jacobi
4 Beaumont
5 Danbury

Any input would be appreciated.
Visa doesn't matter nor does location. Maybe future cardiology

And whats the opinion of SLR vs Jacobi????
Thank you

2- memorial hospital brown- IVy league affiliation, amazing fellowship match , residents are happy with the program, sponsors j-1. electives at brown not counted as away. beautiful city.
3-st lukes- manhattan great opp for heme onc (mskcc), sponsors h-1.
4- crozer chester- good fellowship match, adequate patient exposure. h-1 visa. bad neighborhood.
How would you rank these ?
Although I didn't interview at any of these programs, but with your description I would rank it as (no visa preference):
1. Memorial Brown
2. St. Lukes Roosevelt
3. St. joseph
4. Crozer chester

Hi I'm having a hard time ranking some of the programs, especially Mount Auburn and Bridgeport. My current rank goes

1. Jacobi Bronx
2. SLR NY
3. Einstein PA
4. Mount Auburn
5. Bridgeport CT
6. Cook County
7. Rutgers NJMS
8. St. Vincent Worcester MA

I'm a hem/onc hopeful. I require a Visa and prefer H-1. Should I put Mt. Auburn and Bridgeport lower than their current standing?

Haha, I have 5 of program IVs on your list, but our rankings are completely different. It makes me highly doubt that asking people here could be very helpful

In my opinion, if you prefer H-1 visa, I think you should put mount auburn below cook county, which is at the similar level to Bridgeport. Even though mount auburn is a great program, it is not worth you to go with J visa, compared to cook county/bridgeport level.

But everything also depends on how much you do not be on J visa.

Hi all...
I am indecisive in ranking of these programs.
Please help!

-Presence St Joseph (Chicago) and University of Maryland Midtown Campus

-Lincoln hospital Center and Remond
(Lincoln is an old well-known program with in-house fellowship in Hem-onc. But it is high workload and tense atmosphere.
Redmond is a brand new program but PD and all ththe members are very friendly. He also assured me to get good LOR for fellowship as their faculty members are from Emory.)

For me, I need visa sponsor, and want to go to a fellowship after residency.

Default Any advice/suggestions

I'm having a tough time deciding where to rank two programs. Do any of you have an opinion on Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami, FL? I know it's a fairly new program that will have a full class with this upcoming MATCH's interns. No in house fellowships as well. But the residents were nice and seemed very happy there. It is also a great location and would be close to family. Some were pursuing fellowships as well. What are your opinions on ranking new programs?
The other program is Cook County. I know a lot of negative things have been posted on various forums about the program. I wonder why that is or if there is any truth to those opinions? Thanks in advance and good luck to all in this year's MATCH!

Hi Phantom Resident, I noticed we have few programs in common. Why did you put Urbana so high? And what are your thoughts about Oakwood? Isnt it better than Urbana fellowship wise?

Hi, may I ask why you put Uni of Nevada, Reno at the bottom of the list?
is it due to its fellowship placement? is there any other red flag? plz share your reasons if you don't mind because it's my no.2 program.

Any ideas about University of Central Florida COM IM program? It's a relatively new program in its 2nd year so no ABIM or fellowship statistics. Pros about this program are, its a university program in a great city. Plus all the facilities are new too.

How should one go about ranking it? :S

I received the email from NFRMc too but i saw it was cc'd to a couple of other people as well(around 30).I'm guessing since it was sent on Friday they didn't send out another batch of them so likely other who interviewed there should receive it by today/ tom.

I think the ACGME requires programs to give a contract sample to every applicant. Every program that I interviewed at gave me a sample contract.

"An applicant invited to interview for a resident/fellow position must be
informed, in writing or by electronic means, of the terms, conditions, and
benefits of appointment to the ACGME-accredited program, either in
effect at the time of the interview or that will be in effect at the time of his
or her eventual appointment. Information that is provided must include: financial support; vacations; parental, sick, and other leaves of absence; and
professional liability, hospitalization, health, disability and other
insurance accessible to residents/fellows and their eligible
dependents."

From the ACGME website. All that stuff required is basically included in the contract. Everyone should have gotten a copy of a contract, or at least, been given a sheet of paper with all of the above info on it. Again, every place that I interviewed with gave me a sample contract to look over.

As an IMG one can always study for the purpose of getting high scores but even if an applicant has amazing grades, that doesn't guarantee matching at the number 1 spot or getting an interview at a preferred program in a particular city. That's the issue. Oh well.

I ll apply next year

Hi. I am an IMG. I graduated in June 2015. I have a question regarding gap years.
so if someone volunteers as a doctor in a hospital in his home country for 1 year , is this considered a gap year ? is it harmful to my chances of getting matched in residency program?

Thank you, wish you luck all.

It isn't uncommon for IMGs to take a year off as we need to score higher on the step exams. The higher score with the gap year is better than a low score and no gap years. Unless a lower score comes with several publications and/or a Ph.D.

So personally do as you wish but make sure you have a good story. Observership for a year. Research intern, electives, etc...

Like i said if you can explain in detail what you are doing in case you are asked by an interviewer and you provide that person with enough detail then you will be fine. But if you are unable to explain it well and then that might trigger a red flag.

Some interviewers won't even ask you about that year.

If you are volunteering after med school it won't necessarily be considered a gap year but some interviewers will ask about it so be ready. Doing research or observships in the U.S. would be more beneficial to your application of course...

I am volunteering as a primary care physician in a private clinic.( I wrote hospital by mistake),I just didn't want to sit all day long , and I could'nt find a paid job, so I decided to volunteer, to compensate for the gap year.

sorry for asking alot, but this gap issue is really stressing me out !

Thank you again .

Do as best as you can on your steps and try to get strong U.S. LORs. That is what you need to stress about. A few months at a private clinic isn't going to kill your application...!

One thing I learnt is that the only thing that matters is the YOG. If you're within 5 years of graduation you're OK, if you're within 3 years of graduation you're golden. No one asked me what I did since graduation in detail.

It's variable and depends on the program. Be ready for all kinds of questions.

But i would say most of the programs will ask a standard set of questions: What brings you here, where do you see yourself in the future etc...

Did anyone got "pimped" during the interviews? Or were the people generally nice and tried to sell the program to you as much as we want to show our best side?

I was never pimped or asked any medical question during any of my interviews. All of my interviews were really just conversations. One of my friends did interview at a place that made him answer a few medical questions, though. I think those are more common in NYC (where this particular program was).

I generally had very nice interview experiences. There was one encounter that was frustrating though. The interviewer was an IMG and he seemed to have a problem with all my acheivements. When he saw i earned a distinction scholarship during med school he accused me of taking the governments money and leaving the country :/ ( for the record it wasnt government's money) He then said at least he served his country before coming. He was also extremely against private universities, carribean universities and was very vocal about it. In a nutshell the whole interview was about him talking about himself and how much he was better than me at my stage. :/ it was a very weird experience.

Do you really want to be a resident at that program? I wouldn't...

I seriously wouldn't. I cant imagine working with this guy and hearing more of his snide remarks. Unfortunately i didnt have enough interviews to afford not ranking it at all but i did keep it last on my list.

Agree w/ Andrew... I would have done the same thing. Hopefully, it won't matter because you'll go to your top program

USA Never stop

Hello Peeps,
I think it's been 2-3 years since I have participated in this forum.

Just want to say, keep going! keep fighting!

I was the same nervous, hard working applicant as you. I am 4 months away from finishing IM and about to start fellowship.

Best!

LG

True that!! Your YOG is similar to mine. How many IVs you got and how are feeling come Match day? I'm nervous and already thinking what will happen if I have to go through SOAP.

wow! I got 7 too, first time trying the Match. I'm hopeful IA (God Willing)!! You have got good scores. I had 22x on step 1 and 2 and no step 3. Wondering what should I do if God forbid I don't match..look for research, clinical experience or go for step 3? There isn't much time left between now and Sep.

My concern there is if God forbid I have to apply again next year, what should be my goal for step 3.. what's considered an acceptable score vs a stellar? I'm obviously hoping that IA I match and then not have to worry about scores in step 3.. as long as I pass it without any attempt..it will be good enough. But if I want to use the step 3 score as an applicant for next years's match then it better be great!!

People freaking out on forums is even more annoying. Go for a run or drink a beer or something . Nothing can change the outcome right now including us worrying about it. Chill ! What will be will be.

If you didn't get your SOAP eligibility email, check your spam folder. Everyone I know has had the email in the spam folder.

Best of luck to all of us come Monday.

Imagine how bad it would have been if we didn't catch it, and the Match letter ended up in spam!! I would have probably had an MI.

Guys, stop freaking out
I also have this SOAP status"eligible" in green. This means nothing.
Quote: "ALL Main Residency Match® applicants receive notification of their SOAP® eligibility the Friday prior to Match Week. The notification is NOT an indication of whether you are matched or unmatched but rather an indication of your ability to participate in SOAP when you learn your match status on Monday of Match Week!" (http://www.nrmp.org/residency/soap/s...s-and-schools/)
So, I think that people without this notification should be worried!
Good luck.
