I matched! Now we've got to fix this system so that if we matched, we can find out where- on the same day. There is no logical reason for them to keep this information from those who matched.

Hi, drzzkk

Good luck in the next year match.

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution and, to be honest, I didn't really try to compensate my very old YOG (2002). It's an unfair system for old grads.
I received only 3 IV and somehow, it worked for me.
I am an attending physician in cardiology with PhD degree, working in my home country. I had only 2 months of observerships in the US, received 3 US LORs and one from home country professor.

I wish I knew, drzzkk, I would've shared with you...

congrats on matching.

The system is fine as it is, it is designed for US medical students, so that those USMDs who did not match, will find an appropriate spot by friday so they can participate in their match day ceremonies at their medical schools with the rest of their cohort.

There is a method to the madness

Score your steps as high as possible. You'll understand how important they are later when there is no way of fixing them. So do your best.

Observerships are very little help. If have no real experience than of course its better than nothing. Medical office observes and letters are useless. Try to get them in the hospital.

I see mainly people who matched have 240+ scores and are fresh grads. Is there anyone who matched with below 230 scores and more than 5y after graduation? If yes please tell us what you did. I know this is a lot to ask but already matched and the forum is anonymous. Please help us to match next year.

I see mainly people who matched have 240+ scores and are fresh grads. Is there anyone who matched with below 230 scores and more than 5y after graduation? If yes please tell us what you did. I know this is a lot to ask but already matched and the forum is anonymous. Please help us to match next year.
Hi there! I am a recent grad but matched to my #1 choice with a step 1 of 217 and step 2 of 238. I also ended up ranking programs in only two states (PA and Delaware) because I absolutely wanted to live with my husband next year so my situation was not ideal. Do you have any specific/personal ties to the states? For me, I think (although not sure!!) that made a big difference so use thag card if you have it. I wrote in my personal statement that my husband was a medical student in the region and that was mentioned to me in several interviews. For example, I got asked which school he attended, where his family was, etc. Other than that, electives certainly helped because I got interviews at every school I had an elective at (I did 20 weeks of electives at 5 different schools). When you are doing your electives, go talk to the program directors and make sure they get to know you on a more personal level! Everyone has amazing achievements so some of it certainly comes down to who you know. Last piece of advice, go on 2nd looks after interviews. When I was doing my electives close to the time of submission of rank order lists by programs, the residents kept mentioning the people who came for second looks because they got to know them better. Let me know if you have other questions! Don't give up!!

NEED ADVICE FOR THE MATCH!

This is my situation:

I am an IMG
Graduated 1 year ago
NO visa needed
Step 1; 205 passed first time
Step 2 CK: 235 passed first time
Step 2 CS passed first time.
I did a US rotations in Harvard and I got honors.
I have 6 LORs from 5 different Harvard doctors 2 from IM, 3 from ENT surgery and 1 from OB/GYN.
I'm doing research at MGH, I have 2 publications on revision right now.

I would like to know if it is possible to match in internal medicine? and also if it is ok to apply this year or if it is too late.

What should I do to improve that horrible step 1 and have a better application? Do I have a chance to match somewhere?

Your opinion and advice would be so much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!!!

Why don't you just submit you application on ERAS instead of wasting time typing all these letters here? No one can give you any accurate information except yourself.

Do you think there might be more interviews?
I applied to 85 programs all Internal Medicine
Hi, hope you are doing well. I will interview at Rochester General Hospital and I was wondering if you can help regarding your interview experience there and what did they ask you?
