Congratulations. You should email just that right now and call tomorrow as mentioned. If you don't mind sharing, please tell us where you got the call from.

Hey Almondz31, I just got the same interview invitation too (NYMC Metropolitan) but I am planning to stick with the instructions and just call them tomorrow between 10am - 3pm. Btw, I also received the email at 5pm ET. Congrats and good luck!

I think ERAS has a new system for programs now. There is no more ADTS so we won't know which of the programs have downloaded our application. It will just say "Available" for all.

Okay thanks. I hope that's the case cuz I started freaking out reading about ADTS. By the way I haven't gotten an NRMP ID yet. Would this hurt my chances for IVs? Or is it okay to add a little later? Thanks.

Take it easy. Programs don't review your NRMP ID. You have till Nov 30 before incurring late registration fees from NRMP. You can add your ID to ERAS once you register.

Haha thanks. I thought programs weren't retrieving my application cuz I didn't have an NRMP ID attached to it. But as someone mentioned, ADTS no longer mentions if programs have retrieved applications or otherwise. Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.

Default Trying to add credentials

For some reason i can't copy and paste my credentials

If someone wouldn't mind putting them in

Step 1 222
ck 216
cs pass all first try
18 months usce 5 LOR from US doctors 2 research projects with no publications
No Green card.

I got my lower step2 ck back and was devastated. Does anyone have any experience with this do I stand a chance or am i just wasting my money. Any feedback would be great. Thank you.

2 years ago when I was doing my elective at a respectable University program, I was told by the PD that anything above 240 is competitive. That program rarely takes IMG, but that's just for the sake of argument.

Obviously the higher you get, the more competitive you would be. Other factors come into play too (mentioned several times in this forum).

yeah, but I have feeling that 240 now and 240 two years ago - are in fact two completely different scores
step scores devaluate rapidly

that is why you go by average and standard deviation. Currently, that is 228, 240 (222 for step 3 i guess). so 240 is still competitive because the mean only increased by one point since then. CK increased by 2.

Most of the weight is on step 1. If you earn several points higher from the mean on CK than on step 1, that is seen as an improvement.

I feel you need 250+ now to be competitive and over 260 to stand out. It's crazy how good the scores have become.

recent exam takers may score high but end up in 1 SD above the mean
while those who got the same score years ago may end up in 2SD above the mean which was lower in those days

Dude, you're a very recent graduate. With your scores you're almost certain to match.

that is just insane. it can never get that crazy so fast. if it did, the mean for step 1 would be ~240 and CS would be ~255

according to 2014 nrmp IMG match document, among the people who applied to internal medicine only 4% scored > 260 in CS and only 5% scored > 250 is step1, and still the good news is ~ 50% img's matched that season into IM.

you have great scores. just wait for two more weeks and you will be hit by a wave of interviews. GL.

I really hope what you say is true. I keep going to SDN and getting depressed. You'd think a 245 was an abysmal fail.

info is biased on forums (especially on SDN)
majority who post their scores are above average
those with average to low scores do not disclose their credentials

so it turns out that you are comparing yourself to very strong applicants that comprise the minority of applicant pool

it all depends on the group of stundets on SDN!

in the past, I remeber seeing a document in which there was study of usmle score variance on online forums and in reality. not able to find it now. But, what it showed was that the mean scores of step1 and step2 cs reported online in forums like here and sdn had close to 12 point positive offset to the scores reported by nrmp, meaning the mean score for Step1 was ~240 and CK was ~250 based on the scores reported ONLY the online forums

based on that study it is clear that not everyone participates in the online dicussions. Thats the reason I always fallback to the documentation from credidable source like NRMP.

@ MedicalExaminer : you made my point

Yeah you guys are right. NRMP data is the most accurate. Hopefully the interviews will come and soon. At least didn't get any rejections yet. Thats one positive thing

I am also in the same situation. For CK, my score dropped almost 10 points from Step 1 score. . I wonder how much does this fact affect the overall strength of the application. Haven't heard anything from any programs except couple of acknowledgements.

Hey guys quick question I received an interview invitation late last night and replied as soon as i got home today. I am hearing horror stories that if you don't reply quickly all of the spots may fill up? Has anyone had any experience with this or heard anything. I am freaking out.

Default Number of Applications

I applied to 181 IM programs. Does anyone think that is a lot? What is the nominal number on this forum?

I applied to 193. You gotta apply as broadly as possible. Had I been an USMG I'd probably have applied to less that half that.

I know. I have similar stats to you except for the publication part. I have heard of people applying to 140 programs and getting 14 interviews with worse stats than me. Also, they required a visa.

I just wanted to know if that was overkill. Apparently it isn't.

Default You will find this very useful!

For those of you who want to track Acknowledgements, Rejections, and Interviews sent by programs and to which members you can do so from the following link!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=901526272

I spent much time compiling this information and would appreciate if you also contributed to it

Wow. Seeing this is making me more nervous considering all of the interview invites went to recent grads or people with 250/260 in step 1...

Don't worry, I speculate many of the interviews coming out right now are based on connections.
Most of the interviews will start coming in the first 10 days of October, no need to stress out until then

i don't think this requirement will be strictly followed
but it can be used, on the other hand, as a formal reason for rejection

I did my Family Medicine rotation there. The facilities are old, the lecturers we had were poorly prepared (i.e. often incorrect), and it's the middle of a very boring neighborhood, at least 10-15 minutes walking from any subway line. It's right near Kings County which I believe gets better cases due to it's affiliation with SUNY Downstate. I did not apply here.

If you're in the tri-state area, it's still worth it to interview there. There are programs I am sure I applied to that will invite and you will be less than ecstatic to go to, but the reason they exist are because they are our backups and we have backups for a reason.

At this point in time I am waiting for other interviews to weigh in my choices..!

I usually thank the person who is sending out the e-mail in my reply to schedule the interview. You can probably thank the PD once you see him/her.

Imagine if 200 people sent thank you notes to you via email. How would you feel?

(just an honest opinion).

That term is not appropriate at this time. Good programs wait till the MSPEs are received and reviewed.

October-November are the months in which interviews are sent (more so in october). December interviews are given to other candidates in the case previous interviews are cancelled.

I don't see one excellent program on the list. Not even a really good one.

(I don't claim to be an expert, so feel free to comment on the programs).

True.

But you also want to be a good doctor at the same time.

You will get into a good program. You have solid scores.

Agreed. I'm just looking forward to matching and seeing some results after all the hard work. I'm sure it's the same for everyone here.

224/254/pass 1st/ 3mths observership university program/3LORs/ PhD and MSc from London universities/ several conference presentations and abstracts/ VISA required

This is my first time entering the match, I wonder whether my advanced degrees i.e PhD and MSc will count for anything in attracting interviews. I have no interviews yet. Applied to 85 programs. The waiting game is driving me crazy, any thoughts? YOG 2008 but no gaps in my CV filled with postgrad degrees and UK clinical experience.

Did anyone who got the interview invite from Kingsbrook manage to call the number they gave? I can't seem to get through.

I spent much time compiling this information and would appreciate if you also contributed to it
I think you should keep this document. It has been very helpful to most of us I would say. Just remove people who don't want to share their stats...

Default Importance of MSPE as an IMG

Just a random question guys. How important is the MSPE for IMGs?
I guess most progs wait for MSPE to be released prior to sending invites. So does a poorly written MSPE jeopardize the chances of getting an invite?

@ legendary009,

I feel for any document if poorly written will hurt ones chances given the cut throat competition for IMG's

That question bothers me too, since my med school does not write that monstrous document as american schools
It's a simple one-page evaluation letter

But everybody says that MSPE is relatively insignificant document
Especially for IMGs, because standards of our med schools are unknown for americans

I applied to a mix of university based programs and community programs. For the university programs that have the physician- scientist training track I applied to that and the categorical track. I got emails of interest from UTSW and Yale for the physician-scientist track but otherwise everything else is silent on the categorical front. So far my applications are 40 university programs and 40 community based program. I know my 224 score for step1 is not ideal but I was hoping that the rest of my CV will be strong enough for that not to be an issue. Any thoughts on that? I would really like feedback form people who have a similar profile.

I have heard from a PD that a PhD is great if you want to be practicing as a physician scientist, but won't necessarily significantly increase your chances of landing a residency spot. I would say apply to more community programs if you really want to be in the U.S. otherwise you need to work on connections for a number of University programs. From those people who get in to Baylor in Houston, I was told that they did an observership there and got connected. With a combination of things, it would work.

Good luck.
