Default Step 1 259, step 2ck 256 but a CS attempt!!!!my chances

Hi Guys. I am an IMG postgraduate student from India. I want to take up internal medicine in usa for match 2016 and i graduated in 2009 and then did postgraduation in india. My step 1 score is 259 and step 2ck score is 256. I have a step 2cs attempt..I have 6 months of research and clinics experience(observership) combined at a prestigious us institute. What do you think my IM residency chances are? Is anyone in the same boat like me?ie. scores above 250 and step 2cs attempts?

With those scores you shouldn't have a problem explaining it was just a bad day. Do you have any explanation for why you failed??

Hi volkmann.thank you for your reply. Yes, I gave it in middle of my residency training in India.came to USA for the 1st time and gave in 10 days. Prepared In India which was wrong now in hindsight and didnt prepare well. Also probably got to realize that US patients(esp the SPs) are much different than real patients we deal in india and the system as a whole is much different. I guess I was stupid at that time and in a hurry!!

I'm waiting for my step 2CS results and I can understand how not preparing as well as you should can cause you to fail despite having excellent scores. I've seen plenty of people with far lower scores get interviews, so keep trying and pass step 2CS as soon as possible. Good luck man.

^ This. You already know exactly what to do and you'll be fine. You'll probably get auto screened by a few programs, but if you apply early I think you're going to be fine.

You're going to be asked about the CS failure and I'd say exactly what you said. You were use to a different system, you recognized that the US and India system is far more different than what you anticipated. You addressed your deficient, passed the next time and you've gained some USCE to be more familiar with the system.

Your scores are strong and show it was just a bad day and some poor insight, but you're mature enough to under and fix your mistakes. Very good characteristics of a good resident.
