Default How to apply to transitional year

Hi all,

Currently I passed only the step1 and 2ck.
Could I apply for a transitional year/preliminary year or not?

Thank you

you still have plenty of time before applying to the match, in wich you can take your CS, and maybe get the ECFMG certificate. concerning your question, yes you can americans do that, they apply before having CK results, but be aware that you will have far more less chances to match than if you had your ECFMG in hand before applying

It is not so simple. At the moment I am working in my own country. In order to be ecfmg certifified and to be able to apply i should take the 2cs at max. in july. If it is incorrect, please let me know. I would like to apply for the new DR/IR. So i am wondering about a transitional year to obtain USCE and be more competitive.
But.. is it possible without the certificate ?

Taking it in early july would be close, but I'm pretty certain you'd have CS in time by Certification.

If you're only applying to transitional & medicine prelim, then you need to start looking at places that take IMGs. Transitional year are usually "cushy" and the best of the best AMGs take those spots pretty easily.

Also if you're applying to the new IR, it's super super competitive. DR I think its feasible for IMG with scores >230-240s. DR boards are still pretty tough, therefore your board scores are predictive whether or not you'll pass the written boards which is what your program needs.

My scores are 230 (step1) and 240 (step2ck).
At the moment I pubblished 2 articles, 3 abstract, 1 case-report, 3 chapters of a scientific book and presented 3 posters. Other works are pending.
As I said before, currently I am working in my own country and really I don't want to lose my job to rush for the step2cs ( ).
I am wondering about a preliminary year in order to make USCE experience (and get paid at the same time )) ).
Do you have informations about the new IR matching scores?
Do you think I am making a mistake?

I think you should be able to match to DR as long as you apply far and wide, specially looking at IMG friendly places.

Prelim is definitely USCE since you're doing an intern year. It's hard to make time to interview during intern year if you're going to try to do that, but it's what a lot of people do.

Integrated IR is brand new and I would say it's absolutely NOT IMG friendly. Scores like 250+ might put you into the running for it. Disclaimer, I apply anesthesia not IR/DR, so maybe someone can give you their experience.

With your scores, I do believe you'd at least get a fair amount of anesthesia interviews if you wrote a good PS and had at least 1 anesthesia LOR.
