Default what are d chances of matching in 2016?

Hello Everyone ,

I need a frank opinion about my querie . I scored low on my step1 and i'm due for ck in july/august . I am not sure whether to continue with Usmle r not .If so what are my chances after spending so much of money. My credentials are

Step1 -218
ck - due in july/aug
cs -pass 1st attempt.
YOG -2015
2m electives in Im
1m Obsie in Peds.
5 case reports published 4 as 1st author n 1 as 2nd author all in IM.
Im planning to apply for IM,Peds n FM.

1)do u think its a gd idea to apply for all ?
2) can we apply to FM without an lor in FM ?

Please do reply with your honest opinion .I am really low on confidence dat il match

Thank you.

You've already done so much. Score well in step 2CK and try your luck. Your YOG is huge plus point.

I honestly don't know. I think FM observerships can be used as experience for IM and vice versa. That's what I plan on doing. I don't think you have a choice. Apply and see. People with more obstacles have matched.

I know it's not directed at me but I had the same questions. When I spoke to a PD or read about PD's opinions on this matter, they all said the same thing; it's great if it's meaningful. All that means though is that it should culminate in something, a research presentation, a publication, etc. If you are just doing research to pass time and have done nothing with it, it's not viewed highly. Now this does not mean your research has to be published in a prestigious journal or you have to be first author; just to show you can start something and make it meaningful and worthwhile. Good luck

I would strongly recommend getting FM LORS if you are planning to apply to FM at all. Because the PDs are often aware that people will just apply to FM as a "backup". Because of this a some programs indicate that they want at least 2 of the 3 LORS to be from family physicians as an absolute requirement.

If you cannot get at least two, be sure to do your research and find out which ones require those two FM LORS and don't waste your money.
