Search Plan B suggestions?

hello guys,
ive been reading lots of posts about residencies getting more and more competitive, and seems that everything's going to change for 2013 match.

i have got to be honest, im a little bit down, if my chances were few with the match having pre-matches offers and relatively lots of positions for IMGs (because i have a terrible step 1 score), now they're almost zero!!!!

ive been thinking a lot since yesterday, and to be honest i didnt study as i had scheduled, im a little bit down, thinking about the future and if these years and money are going to worth it!!! its eating me alive! sometimes i make some comments but my dad doesnt understand what im dealing with, it doesnt matter how much i explain he thinks im being "negative" because he thinks that there's a place for everyone in USA. thanks to my family ive been raised in a way that "if you study, everything is going to be fine with you, your future is in your hands", but now i think they're wrong, maybe in the past it was like that, but now this world is so full of competition that it doesnt matter how many parties i missed and how much i try, if i am not a "wow", i will be ANOTHER IMG with a lost dream, and a wasted time
people in the past had an easy life, they just had to study, and thats it :s, and thats why my dad doesnt understand the word "competitive world", and i dont blame him, in fact, i wish i belong to his generation

i dont know what to do next, i want to ask you, because ive heard that CMGs are considered like AMGs and ive also heard that GC holders have a little advantage in some programs: if i am both CMG and GC holder am i in a safer place with a very low score in step1? im trying my best to have an awesome step2ck score, so lets suppose that i do great in ck+lowstep1+pass cs+GC+CMG+2010grad... and planning to do one month observership (not confirmed yet), can i be calmed?

as i said above, im a green card holder, and it means that i MUST be living in USA, im not supposed to be out of the country for a long period, you know?

so, i wanted to know ANY opinion about plan B's... what if i dont match? (i dont even want to think it's a possibility, but just in case) what can i do? im the kind of person that has her life planned, if 2013 match doesnt go for me im going to be devastated, but i know i wont be crying for the rest of my life, i would have to find something to live, even when my heart is going to be aching deep inside...

any suggestions?

Caribbean medical students generally do very well in the match specially if they have some core rotations in USA. Even if you don't I still think your matching chances are high.

Having a Green Card and being a fresh grad is extremely advantageous.

Do not listen to the rumors that 2013 match is going to be non-IMG. That's not true.

The US Health Care System and particularly residency programs are dependent on IMGs and they just can't survive without them.

If the US government faces difficulty in funding residency programs (which I highly doubt) then am sure the hospitals themselves will find some other ways to fund their residents because simply they can't survive without them.

Also such drastic changes won't happen over a year or two, it needs at least 5 years to see some changes in the health care sector.

Also to cheer up a little, read here
15,000 New Residency Positions by 2017

So my advise to you is to set these distracting rumors aside and turn back to your books and do not let down your father.

Our fathers are always right!!!

Cool Plan B I am doing... Caribbean Med Student

Ok... I have tried stem I and it was difficult to begin with but STEP 2 seems like even more work. Any ways I decided to look for alternatives, as you may know it is hard for a Caribbean to compete in match and even harder if you took a lot of time. Any ways I tried PA schools but dint get accepted but learned that NP or nurse Practitioners, practice with out any restrictions just like doctors (MD's) in most states.

I looked up programs and the ONLY two MD-RN programs I found were in florida. One of them took two years to finish while the other took 10months. Guys honestly consider it, I know its a step down but hey its better than odd jobs.

Oh the school with the 10 month MD to RN is Azure College. And if you guys are inquisitive let me know I think next class begins in two weeks...
