Question Should I hurry up for the 2013 match!

hey!
Currently I am planning my step 2 ck in the end of July 2012. (4mnth prep time) and so I'll be able to take my CS in August... I'll be working. will I be able to get my results by September to apply for match the same year? will it be a safe move?

I graduated in mid 2010. did 1 yr of internship. just started working as a medical officer at a good university hospital recognized in US (its experience counts) i have an option of quitting my job as well. or will it be better if i continue with my job and take CK and CS over a period of 8-9 months and not in a hurry and then apply in yr 2013 (year 2014match)?

I've heard its really difficult to get residency after 3yrs of graduation and that many universities don't consider you.. is it true? im totally confused...graduating in mid 2010 makes 3 yr= mid 2013 right? .... I've heard these days they give advantage of having a working experience at a recognized institute as well...

please advise whats better.

Thanks!

The real question here;

Which has more impact on the matching probability; graduation freshness or prior home country experience.

The answer to this question is complicated and depends on several confounding factors.

However, it's generally along these lines.

Community programs will be happy to take "expert" IMGs as they are looking for people to do the work and there won't be lots of teaching.

University programs are generally more inclined to take fresh graduates with high scores as they want to teach them and they are looking for bright people with research and fellowship potential.

In your special case, if you think that your scores will be compromised by hurrying up, then I suggest you don't hurry up, scores are more important than any other factor.

Steptaker, that's a good question. Do you think it is better to apply right after grad with some usce or do 3 months of the specialty you're interested in after graduation in your home country? ie apply 1 year after grad or as soon after graduation?

you said university prog look for candidates who are fresh, bright and who have fellowship potential...

so does that mean, students doing their residency in community progrrames find it very difficult to enter in fellowships... is it so...?? are they dis-advantaged...??

if yes, then how difficult is it to get into competetive fellowships like CARDIOLOGY after residency in INTERNAL MEDICINE in a community programe.

Fellowships are not as competitive as residencies because only 15% of graduating residents apply for fellowships!
Therefore, even if you do community residency you can still get excellent fellowships.
Steptaker is telling you how University PDs think, they want all their graduates go to fellowships but community programs they typically don't care where go after residency.
