Surgery Unfilled Prelim Surgery Positions!

Why there is unfilled positions in preliminary surgery?
so how come some people say they could not get interview for preliminary surgery? programs prefer their position to be unfilled (even by not accepting IMGs)!
or these are all rumors and prelim interviews and matching for it is easier?

Got so confused!

Default Prelim

To find out, just go the NRMP website and download the results for the 2011 match.

I applied sept 15th, to +/- 50 places all prelim. I have 2 interviews so far and tons of rejections.

Step 1 ~ 240
Step 2 CS passed first time
Step 2 CK ~ 250
USCE 4 months all in surgery
2 US LORs
US-IMG

ECFMG certification Oct. 2011

I can't speak for everyone, but my experience so far has been scary. I am trying not to complain to much because I have 2 IVs and some people have 0.

so what's the reason? do u think they prefer their positions remain unfilled?
in reality does surgery pgy1 remain unfilled??

Also remember that those NRMP stats does not include the scramble (SOAP), so if there's any unfilled position, it will be filled by AMGs in the scramble.
