Default Future IMG, should I do an elective in IM or peds?

Hi there,

I have been googling this loads but I cant seem to find an answer and I was hoping maybe someone here could help me answer this. I would really appreciate any input!

I am a medical student in a well respected European medical school. I have already secured an elective in internal medicine in the US this July. I am currently trying to organize a second US elective for the winter to get more USCE for my residency application.

The thing is I have not yet decided whether I would like to do adult internal medicine or pediatrics after I graduate. I really like both and I keep going back and forward between them!
I have two questions about choosing this second elective:

1) If I was applying to IM residency programs in a few years and had 2 US LORs, would both of them need to come from IM doctors to stand a decent chance of interviewing or would one IM and one peds LOR be ok?

Obviously if peds requires all peds LORs then thatís out seeing as I already have an IM one booked.

2) Would I have any chance in an application to a peds program if I had 2 IM electives/LORs?

I know you need at least 3 LORs for application but I am only referring to US LOR's here. Every year people in my school match with 2 North American LORs and one from a doctor they rotate with here. My school only gives us limited time to pursue overseas electives unfortunately.
I know there a lots of other things needed to apply for residency, I am just asking about electives specifically because that's what I'm trying to arrange at this time. I really want to know which one to pick for the winter, peds to keep that door open (if thatís possible) or just stick with IM now seeing as thatís the first elective Iím doing?

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me out here!
