Certificate Home country med school LoRs!

I am an IMG old graduate (almost 3 yrs). Immediately after may graduation I did an externship in my own country. After I came to US I didn't work at all & have no USCE. I am now done with step1 & plan to complete step 2 in time to apply for 2013 match. Now as far as the LORs are concerned, I have only 3 LORs from my home country (2 neurosurgery, 1 surgery) but I wanna apply for IM programs.
Now can I get some LORs from my professors of med school, for the clinical rotations that I did during my study & not after my graduation, or will that be totally useless??? because I don't want to get any fake LOR.
Plus if I do 1 observership in July will that be fine?

You old home country LoRs are not completely useless, they work but much much less efficiently than a US LoR.

Therefore, I suggest you do all you can do to get some USCE and LoRs from US physicians in internal medicine, this will dramatically increase your chances of getting interviews.

sure i'll do that thank you so much!
but i just want to confirm that LORs for clinical clerkships during study before graduation, are they as effective as any clinical experience after grad??? can those be used when applying for residency? & those LORs are not in some sealed envelope, so is that a problem?? can i post them myself to ECFMG or it has to be from my professor (who is in my home country)?? plz help again!!! thanks

Med school LoRs are great for fresh graduates but for graduates who have more than a year since graduation then postgraduate (rotation) LoRs are far more important. The idea is that the PD will wonder what you have been doing if you just show him the med school LoR and you have a couple of years since graduation.

The LoRs may or may not be waived, if you don't waive your rights then you don't need the seal and you can send them yourself to ECFMG, for more information read here
