Default Official versus critical application deadline!

All residency programs participate in ERAS.

ERAS application start the first of September every year.

The last date to receive applications is different for each program (check the website of each residency program). Some programs say the deadline October 15, others say December 31st, ...etc

Most residency programs continue to accept application through November.

However, for IMGs, the more important and critical question as you pointed out in your post above is not the official published program deadline, it's which date that beyond which the chances of getting interviews diminish significantly?

For example, a program publishes in their website that the deadline is November 30th. But in reality, they don't look at applicants who applied after October 1st, because they already filled all their interview spots and they are not interested in more applicants.

This means that the sooner you apply, the more chances you have of getting interviews.

Of course, this is not a rule. This is just a generalization. Some programs do honestly keep looking for applicant profiles until the published deadlines.
