Default too late?

Ok, may be not too late, I see nobody joined, but I believe people are shamed of their scores, not me:

2- 209(first)
CS- preping,
YOG 1999, USCE-4 years, 2 publications

Hey marina99, I too am an old IMG grad from 1999. Though I don't have same scores I too am struggling to get into the system due to YOG, but would like to let you know if you manage to get observership/externship in good programs, you already have great experience, then all filters are gone and PDs choose you if you are hard working. I learned from many people and am trying this, though have not succeeded as yet. America does not disappoint hard working people for long.
All the best.

I think with this low score and second attemp in step-1 you are just wasting your money and precious time. I would say you still have time to choose a second way, before you watse more money, more time, more effort

Default First time participating in MATCH

I am about to graduate from Med School (currently on 4th year)..
I still haven't had any interviews yet.

But my Step 1 score fits into this thread.

Step 1 207 (first attempt)
Step 2 CK 246 (first attempt)
Step 2 CS ...waiting for score report (first attempt)

I am a US-IMG, with USCE and 4 LoR's from US Board Certified Physicians.
We'll see what happens

I agree, time is priceless, and a chance, even its only 1 from a hundred would be priceless too. When everything is done and nothing happens, then I will think about plan "B", otherwise, if I stop now, I will always have a second thought "what if..." I dont want to live with second thought, do you?

the question is whether to catch tht 1 out 100 chance, you will spend your time and money or not. Actually I saw some of my friends who with such low scores and with second attempt are still hanging around, some are applying for the third time. They also did the same mistake, as you did. When they failed on first attempt, in the same way, people encouraged them, "go ahead, may be luck will favor you,....." many such sweet words they heard and went ahead, spending more time and money,,ultimately no good .....May be few years back the situation was diffrnt, then with low score/2nd attempt many people sneaked in, but now the situatn is totally differnt, the competition is really fierce now...I knw I sound ridiculous/rude, but I can tell you, you are just gonna throw your money/time/effort to water, If I would be in your position, I would be giving up after failing on step-1.

I see your point also my friend, but what really bothers me its a friendly IMG programs, with no cut off score, with no care about YOG etc, do they really exist?or its a trap to get people with higher scores and still cut off "undesirables"?

Whatever I have learnt is that there are such programs and even Ivy league Univ programs like John Hopkins etc who offer same thing, but everyone prefers Fresh Grads and High scores etc etc........having said that, there are many PDs who value life experiences and other clinical experiences.Hope you happen to apply in those programs who have such PDs...which programs I wish I knew too............................but again I would restate that America does not disappoint hard working people for long therefor giving up should be the last thing on your mind.

So, if IM doesn't work, do we choose FM or Peds? What about Psychiatry? I'm using it as a backup because it is more appealing to me than peds or FM.

it depends. if you have GC + >6mos USCE, FM would be a good choice after IM. but right now (current trend), peds is the easiest to get in, easier than FM. sorry, i don't have any idea about psych.

I know one guy with pretty average scores (mid 80s/early 200s) in the old scoring system, who did 3-4 years of GS research at Harvard. He kept on applying and eventually got matched at Harvard. Yes! At Brigham's in GS.

So if you are willing to spend a year or two improving your CVs then that will help a lot.
