Default Residency with max 40 hrs/week

i am an IMG, and we will come to the US because of my husbands job. i want to do a psych residency (and hopefully child psy fellowship). i have a 4 yr old son and i cannot work more than about 40 hrs a weeke. (he has special needs and i want&need to be there for him).
is there any possibility to find a residency like that?i still have to take 2 usmle steps and i dont know if it worth it , if i cannot find a residency that works out for us.
thank you so much for your help.

many Pathology, radiology and clinical pathology residencies are 40-48hr/week programs!

I've read it in many programs in their websites

Good luck, and USMLE track is always worth it

I wouldn't count on it. You definitely don't want to tell programs that you are interviewing at that you can only work 40 hours/week. There may be some programs but they are few and far between. Telling them that you can't work more makes you seem like you aren't a hard worker and it puts a strain on the rest of the team you are working with because they will be forced to cover for you. If your husband has a job and you are in residency, you should be able to afford care for your child when both of you are not around. I understand that you want to be with your child and take care of them, but why would any program want someone who can only work half of the legally allowed time? Psych residency programs are generally less intense than surgery and IM but if you are not willing to work over 40 hours/week, I would think long and hard about pursuing this path. Good luck

Some programs will let you know how many hours will be expected of you. Be sure to call directly and find out from the programs you are interested in. However, limiting yourself in any way and letting them know you won't be able to be fully committed will severely hinder your chances. Be sure to tread carefully!

When you go to apply in September, try to have AT LEAST your Step 1 score with your CK score on the way (preferably you will have your CK score). You must have your CS scheduled for before the end of the year to make it for the 2016 Match. If not, you may only be able to go for the Post Match.
