Question Need help, Please!!!

Hi
I'm going to apply for 2016 MATCH.

Step 1 :244
Step 2: 213
waiting for CS result
YOG 2010
worked as GP for 3 years in my country
worked as sub-investigator for a year in U.S
need visa

Have I any chance for Internal Medicine?
any program to recommend?
how can I make a smart list of programs?

I would be grateful for any suggestion, help or information.
Thanks,

Hereís what Iíve gathered from the information provided:

Pros- Above average Step 1 score and lots of prior experience
Cons- 30 point drop in scores/lower CS score, years since graduation and visa sponsorship

I would be more worried if you were interested in Neurological Surgery, but Internal Medicine is not entirely out of your reach. However, your CK score and YOG will be your biggest challenges. The average Step 1 score for IMGs Matched in 2014 was 229, which you are well above, but the average Step 2 score was 237. You will need to be prepared to not only answer for the score drop but strengthen the rest of your application to make up for it.

You will need specialty specific, recent LoRs (preferably from US clinical experience), a complete/error free MyERAS Application, but most importantly, you will need a specialty specific Personal Statement. If you choose to address the gap and score drop, be very careful how you phrase these topics. Keep it short (sentence or two) and positive. You can say something like ďI struggled...but it made me stronger because...Ē Be honest, but donít dwell in the negatives.

Finally, to create a program list, make sure you qualify for each programís requirements (YOG, USMLE scores, visa sponsorship, etc.) Itís better to call programs directly than trusting free databases or program websites. You will need at least 100 programs per specialty to be competitive but more is better.

You have some obstacles, but with hard work you could get Matched into Internal Medicine.

It is most certainly possible, but you will need to work very hard. Score well on your CK and pass your CS (preferably on the first try), and secure as much USCE as you can and make sure you are getting multiple good Letters of Recommendation out of it. Then, prepare your application to be as strong as possible.
